Patrade-panna Muddo/Idly.
Colocasia leaves spicy Idly.
Soak 2 cups rice in water for 2 hours. Drain well and grind coarsely (texture should be that of Idly rava) and keep aside.
Wash and dry about 10-12 patrade leaves (Colocasia leaves). Chop them finely and keep aside.
Grind to a fine paste 2 cups of fresh grated coconut with 10-12 Red kashmiri chillies (as per your taste), small lemon sized tamarind, 1tsp hing powder.
Take a large bowl and mix together the ground rice, cut leaves and the ground paste. Add salt and mix well. Add water if necessary. The consistency should be thick and not watery. Apply oil to Idly moulds add some of the mixture in each mould and steam from 35-45 minutes. Remove, let cool a bit, run knife found the idly mould and flip over to demould. Serve with coconut oil.
Note : This can be steamed in banana leaves which is the traditional method. In that case the batter should be thicker. I did not have banana leaves so I steamed them in Idly moulds. You can even steam it in a big mould also, like the bigger round vessel similar to the once we use in case of dhokla, after flipping it out & leaving to cool a bit, cut them into desired shape.
