Beans Upkari


Simple Green Beans Upkari/Bhaji.


Cut 250gms green beans into 1/3 inch pieces. Wash, rinse and let drain in a collander.


Heat 1 tblsp oil in a thick bottomed kadai. Add 1 tsp rai (sasam), when it splutters add 2-3 red chillies cut into pieces, a few curry leaves. Add the beans mix well. Cover and cook on low heat. Sprinkle water if necessary. Keep checking in between so that the beans does not get burnt. When almost done add in salt to taste and 1 heaped tsp of fresh grated coconut (Optional) to garnish the upkari. Mix well and cook till done. Serve hot as a side dish with Dal and Rice..

Note: Adding of coconut is optional, however it is recommended and it enhances the taste.
