My Veg. Thali~ 255.

"My Veg. Thali~ 255 : Bajjile Pappodu ani Happolu (Roasted Papad and Chilly Papad), Kadgi Chakko (Raw Jackfruit dry Curry), French Beans- Batate (Potato) Upkari (Bhaji), Tomato Saaru (Saar), SheetHa (Rice)" ... totally amchi jevana aajee/ today ... chakko asleri ani kasale nakka naive? ... had a short nap after this soulful meal ... Yummilicious ...

** Come winter and it is always a difficult choice of dishes to prepare as the choice for favorite veggies is overloaded. Winter is that season when raw jackfruit, green peas, carrot, cauliflower, fresh pigeon peas, lemons, amla etc. begin flooding in the market and it is always very confusing to purchase as you really want them all, but then again there is a limit to cooking too after all food is not to be wasted. Raw Jackfruit is a favorite of all amchies and when in season it definitely occupies a place in dishes in one form or the other. You either have a full dish prepared with it or you add it on to pulses or other veggies and prepare the same, such is the fascination for this delicious veggie.

** In my home too it is the same case, luckily for me if we go to the main market, they clean it up and give you large chunks of about 200-300 gms and all you need to do is bring them home and cut them to smaller pieces which is a breeze work. I always buy around a kg of the cleaned one if it is fresh as it remains good for almost a week if well packed and stored in fridge. Prepared Chakko a delicious side dish from Konkani Saraswat Cuisine which is a must almost every week when its in season. The tender raw jackfruit that is accessible at the beginning of the season is the best suitable for this dish and with it for lunch you really don't need to bother to cook anything else.

** Though I love to relish chakko with dalitoy (spiced tuvar dal) and rice, to resisted myself from cooking dal as tuvar dal has higher uric content in it and as one ages is not so good for health. Tomato Saar also tastes great especially when served piping hot with rice so recently I always zero in on it, though I must begin to prepare the other saars too which has been ages since I prepared, so watch out for more saar and other dishes to be served with rice here by keeping a constant touch.
