Bondi (Banana Flower) with Potatoes / Mochar Ghonto.


 Banana flower (Bondi) with potatoes .. cooked in Bengali style known as Mochar Ghonto . 

1 medium sized banana flower, 1 big potato cubed, 1tsp jeera, 1 heaped tsp jeera powder, ½tsp coriander powder, ½tsp fennel powder, ½tsp red chilli powder ½tsp haldi powder 2-3 dry red chillies, 2-3 green chillies, 2-3 bay leaves, few curry leaves, 1tblsp grated ginger, 1tblsp chopped garlic, 1tsp sugar, salt to taste, oil for seasoning, ¼ cup finely grated fresh coconut.


Pressure cook the cubed potatoes to one whistle. Chop the banana flower finely. Take a kadai heat a little bit of oil add chopped garlic and fry till colour changes then add a pinch of haldi powder, grated ginger and the banana. Add about 2-3 cups of water and salt to taste, bring to a boil, lower heat and cook well till it is almost dry. In another pan heat about 2-3tblsp oil add jeera followed by bay leaves, curry leaves, red chillies and green chillies broken to pieces, fry a bit, add in the jeera powder, coriander powder, haldi powder, fennel powder, chilli powder and stir a bit. Add potatoes, a bit of salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 2mts. Add the cooked banana, sugar, mix well, cover and cook for 10-15mts. Mix in the coconut and cook till dry. Serve hot.
