Whole Masoor + Radish Kolmbo / Saar Upkari..
Wash 2 cups of whole masoor in plenty of water. Pressure cook for 4-5 Whistles adding about 6 cups of water. When cool remove the lid and pour it out into another vessel.
In the same pressure cooker add about 3 cups of Radish, peeled and cut to big pieces to one whistle. When cool remove and add to the masoor and mix well. Check the consistency. Add water if necessary. It should be semi thick consistency.
Heat about 4 tsp oil in a pan and add about 10-12 skinned garlic and fry till they turn out a bit brown in colour, then add in 3 tblsp of sambar powder and fry for a minute, the powder should not get burnt, if you add less oil you will not get the flavour. If you feel it is get burnt add in some water and mix well. Add this to the masoor mixture and bring to a boil adding salt to taste.
Lower the heat and let cook for 5-10 minutes on slow fire. Keep stirring to avoid the dal settling down. Serve hot with rice or roti.
