Moong Dal + Rice Khichdi / Pongal with Plain Curds, fried curd chilly and Hogplum Pickle ... A Yummy combination of dishes for dinner ... when you want to keep your tummy light, at the same time full with good nutrients and proteins ....
Khichidi is a staple diet of many Indian all round the country called by different names in different part of the regions. Its the same as Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Moong bhaat of North. The dish is simple and good when you want to refrain from heavy food. Just pressure cook and enjoy the khichidi a combination of lentil with rice with simple curds or raita and pickle. Yummy Yumz.
** Wash 1 cup of basmati tukda rice or any ordinary rice like surti kolam rice with ¾ cup of moong dal (Skinned). Drain and keep ready.
** Heat ¼ cup of ghee in a pressure cooker pan. When hot and melted add 1 tsp jeera and ½ tsp rai when they splutter add in curry leaves, ½ tsp crushed pepper powder, ¼ tsp hing / asfoetida powder and pinch of haldi / turmeric powder and fry for a few seconds.
** Add in the drained dal-rice and fry for a few minutes. Add 4 cup of water, salt to taste and pressure to to 2 whistles. Now lower the heat and let cook for 5 mins. Raise the heat and pressure cook to one whistle. Remove from fire and keep aside. Let the pressure from the cooker fall on its own.
** Moong Dal ~ Rice Khichidi is done and ready to be served. Serve hot with Plain Curds / Raita /Besan kadhi / Pickle / Sambar etc. or any other dish of your choice. But the best of all is simple curds or raita.
