Simple Kolumbe Jevana.

“Simple Kolumbe Jevana : Tingalavro- Matti Gulla- Batato ani Mashinga Sanga ghalnu Kolumbo/ White Beans- Green Brinjal- Potato- Drumstick Sambar" served with Rice and homemade Curds/ Dahi along with roasted store bought Mirsange Happolu- Urad Papad (Chilly and Urad Papad) … delicious kolumbo from Konkani Saraswat Cuisine prepared with white beans instead of dal along with veggies … tastes awesome when served with Rice or with Idly/ Dosa … Yummilicious …

** Kolumbo or Sambar as known in other parts of the country is a delicious dish prepared and served both along with rice or even with Idly, dosa, roti etc. We Konkani Saraswat’s usually prepare thicker variety sambar ie the one with inclusion of potatoes, drumstick, brinjal etc. along with ground masala for serving with rice while the one’s served with Idly dosa is usually thinner in texture with onion, tomatoes, carrots, pumpkin along with powder masala. Well you can serve either with rice or other dishes too depending upon the family numbers. Again, you can prepare sambar using other pulses like cow peas, white peas, matki etc. I have posted plenty of them before in the Blog before, so do use the sear option or go through the common link given below for kolumbo. This one is prepared with tingalavro ie White Beans in place of tuvar dal and it tastes fantastic. I have already posted the recipe separately so will be sharing the links to the same as this post is under the “Solo Meal” section, ie one dish meal. I must mention here that “Kolumbe Jevan” which means “Sambar Lunch” is a very famous one in my community. Whenever there is a marriage or certain festival wherein relatives drop over the previous night of the function this is the very meal that is served to them. In fact people get invited the previous day for Dinner and this is what gets served most of the time, such is the craze for this kolumbo in my community. Do try it out and relish it with any dish of your choice and it would be lovely if you could give me a feedback too.
