"Happolu (Red Chilly Papad) ~ Boondi Kismuri" served with Red Boiled Rice Poriridge (Ukde tandla pejja) topped with a dollop of ghee and Lime Pickle (Limbiya puddi nonche) … Happla Kismuri is a salad sort of dish common in Konkani Saraswat houses served with either Dal-Chawal as a side dish or with peja / kanji / rice porridge. But what do you do when you find to your dismay that there is insufficient papad for preparation of kismuri and it’s too late to buy some ... added on some boondi (deep fried gram flour crispies) to the kismuri ... Yummy Pejje Jevana .......
** This is a Pejje Jevan Thali or combo meal, that is a comfort food for many people specially during monsoon or winter or even when you have had too much of festive dishes and you want something warm and light. It spreads in warmth in the body and induces a good sleep too. Red boiled rice pejja is considered to be very healthy option among porridge / peja as it is unpolished and has more or nutrients intact in the same. I am just sharing a combo pattern here that is relished in most of the Konkani Saraswat homes in Southern parts of India. I will not run into details much and will share in the links to the particular dishes separately below, do try them out and relish with your family and enjoy the health benefits. Remember to always serve the rice porridge / pejja with a dollop of fresh homemade cow's ghee for added health benefits, Ayurveda gives in a lot of importance to ghee that is obtained from cow's milk, as it is loaded with good nutrients.
** Wanted to prepare Happala kismuri to relish with peja, but found to my dismay that there was insufficient papad for preparation of kismuri and it’s was too late to go out and buy some. Also, I had already chopped the onions and kept them ready, was wondering what could be done when my eyes fell on the plain salted boondi packet. Suddenly I got the Idea of preparing kismuri with addition of boondi, a deep fried gram flour crispies. Why not ?? after all it was close to papad except for spice level which could be dealt with, So went ahead and added boondi to the kismuri ... Yummy Pejje Jevan and I must say I could not have had a better choice. There’s definitely going to be more combos of kismuri and I must confess here that this kismuri was prepared long back somehow the kismuri was blogged while the pejje jevan was not, so posting this now so that those who want to follow pejje jevan combos, will find this an interesting combo. Do try this out and enjoy with your family and friends.
