Sharing with all my friends here ... the kokum buttermilk you see in the Thali is always made in our deity Malshi temple, at Mardol, Goa and is wonderful ... May Goddess Mahalasa Narayani Bless each one of us with good health, peace and happiness ...

** Nave Javeche is new harvest lunch which is followed by all in Kokani Saraswat Community in their homes by preparing a lavish lunch offering to family diety and thereby distributing it amongst family and friends. Many families observe the same during Vijaya Dashami too as per their family traditions followed down through generations. My Kula Devi (family deity) is Mahalasa Narayani and for many years I really did not know that the day was on Sashti ie the sixth day of Navratri, I observed the same on Vijaya Dashami. It so happened that about 2 decades back when we visited the main temple of Malshi in Mardol, Goa, the Purohitji/ Bhatji happened to mention the same and after that every following year I observe the same on Sashti. But as for nearly a decade I had done so on Vijaya Dashmi and it also being an very Important day of Lord Rama having slain Ravana I though why not continue on that day too.

** For “Kokum Taak (Buttermilk)” Recipe, I followed an instant method. I used Aagal a kokum concentrate available in stores. You just need to add it on to any dish you desire to add kokum and it serves the purpose. I came across this recently and after that I always use the same. Just beat one cup of thick curds with 2 cups of water and ¼ cup of kokum aagal well. Check and add in more water if necessary. Add some finely chopped fresh coriander leaves to the same along with a few crushed green chillies, a dash of hing powder and jeera powder and mix well. Allow to rest for some time and serve as it is or you can sieve the same and then serve.
