My Fish Thali 219.

"My Fish Thali 219 : Manje Alle'- Piyavu- Ambade Gashi (Pomfret Ginger- Onion- Hogplum Curry) served with Ukde SheetHa (Red Boiled Rice) and roasted papad (lijjat papad)" ... I had purchased very small sized pomfret/ manji/ pamplet yesterday for frying, but on second thoughts prepared and kept gashi today adding mitta ghallele ambado (brined hogplums) early in the morning so that when I returned home tired and ready to drop after being out the whole day this meal would be really pleasing to soul ... Yummilicious ......

** A delicious and simple combo of fish curry and red boiled rice that has loads of teenage days memories with my father and me relishing it at restaurant in Mangaluru. After completing my education I used to attend my fathers office and work for him for about 4 years till I got married and settled in Mumbai. During those days though initially we were staying in Mangaluru, we had then shifted over to Suratkal, a nearby town, say about 40 minutes journey by Bus in outskirts. This distance made it difficult to go home for lunch and come back to office, so my dad and me used to go to restaurant to have lunch if it were busy days and needed me to attend office the whole day.

** I have really enjoyed these 4 yrs as not only did I learn the ropes of running business but also enjoyed resto food almost on daily basis. I used to leave home very early say by 7 am as I attended computer classes first, also I had to take the bus and then went over to office, this meant I missed out on my breakfast and though at times it was sent by Mom over to office many a times I had to enjoy from restos near by. Those stuffed veggie loaded parathas with lots of ghee were too delicious to resist though were filled with calories and so was the long glass of musambi juice I often sipped on. Those days we never thought much about calories though I did realize I was adding on weight to my dismay.

** Lunch was very late say around 2.30 or 3 pm only after the rush hours in office. Dad and me went to resto and enjoyed having fish curry with rice plate which were served in many restaurants without other frills or side dishes at minimum cost, say about Rs.15/- and I always preferred pomfret while dad enjoyed mackerel. Selection of rice was also as per our palate, we could choose between normal white rice or red boiled rice and we always chose the later as somehow we loved the same with spicy fish curry and till date I miss dad when I prepare this combo as he was a foodie and I learnt so much from him both regarding food and life. God Bless his soul and keep him happy in heavenly abode.

** Given below are the links to the recipes of individual dishes in the picture above, please go through the link for that particular dish .....

The only difference here is that I have used small sized pomfrets whole as served to us those days in restaurant while the older recipe has sliced pieces of large sized pomfret, rest of the recipe remains same.
