#GPThoughts_N_Notes ... Ghongo the Ghost we feared as Children ... Mom always warned "Chalda Bairi Vocchunkachi, thai Ghongo assa" meaning "Child don't go out, there are Ghosts out there" and we believed ... oh yes, we believed her, after all mom's are always right 👍 ... do you think we can try this phrase on those careless people who are roaming like bewakoofs/ stupids putting the whole nation and there by the world in danger??? ... shayad ye bhasha samajmey aaye ... when Mom warned us, though in our mind we knew that she was just scaring us, but we behaved and sat at home without a murmur peeping slowly hiding behind her varla/ pallu into that dark room or verandah with a fear that maybe there indeed was one ghongo there ... these are the words in place of lakshman rekha that mom's used to keep us at home safe after dark ... we also had stern warning to be home by 6pm ... I remember mom saying "Tilsana Divvo lavche vellari hath paayu dhuvunu, divvo lavunu, Devaka namaskar korka, bairi bhovunche nahin" meaning at twilight you should come home, wash your hands and feet, light a oil lamp and offer prayers to God not roam about in the dark" ... when mom said so, we did it, why not now, where is the harm?? ... Have we lost faith? oh yes, we have outgrown those ghost stories, we know there is no ghongo outside, but then, that in no way means our ancestors were wrong ... it was their way of disciplining the coming generations ... they believed and rightly so that if they adviced us as it is, people would just brush it aside and not listen even in crisis ... exactly what so many out there are doing now ... Oh, how I wish mom's story of ghongo had lived through generations and people feared ... all we had to tell them would be ... bairi vochunukachi thai hollo ghongo assa ... Shyaayad baatH bheje mey ghusti aur dhunia sambal jatee ... Praying God that better sense prevails in all, that he forgives us for our faults and sails us all to safety ...
