Muskmelon+ Seeds (Chibbada) Juice.


“Muskmelon+ Seeds (Chibbada) Juice” … served with Butter Chakuli/ Murukku made with cooked rice and Urad Dal to munch on … A simple juice prepared with added on health benefits of the inner seeds of the melon too, which are very nutritious, do not chuck them off, just grind, strain and add them to the juice … here is my mid break snack and coolant as Mumbai’s rising heat makes you drenched in sweat Yummilicious …. 

** This is a simple juice prepared with almost whole of the muskmelon except for the outermost skin. Yes, you read it right, I too always discarded the innermost seeds whenever I used any melon thinking they were bitter and also not consumed. But decades back when I started cooking after my marriage, I always came across dried melon seeds that were sold and was surprised as to what were its uses. Well they are filled with nutrients and have lots of cooling properties, is what I found out. I will not run into details, as they are all there on net and you can access them easily. To cut short, after this knowledge I have never thrown them off, I either grind and strain and use them immediately or at times wash them clean and dry them and then roast and eat them too. There are many ways in which you can use them and I will be sharing them as and when possible, so the next time, do not chuck it off, reap in the health benefits for yourself and your family. 

** Here is my simple method of preparing “Muskmelon+ Seeds (Chibbada) Juice” … My Style …

** Wash and pat dry the muskmelon. Cut the muskmelon horizontally into two and remove the inner most seeds along with the fleshly mushy portion attached to it and keep it aside. Now slice off the outermost thick skin as thinly as possible taking care to see that there is minimum wastage while doing so, use a sharp knife. 

** Cut into small pieces the edible juicy flesh portion and put it in a blender/ mixer grinder and grind/ blend to a smooth paste. Remove into a large stainless steel bowl. Now in the same mixer grinder add in the seeds and the fleshy mushy portion along with a glass of water and grind to smooth paste. Add more water only if necessary.

** Remove, strain it well through a fine sieve, and add it to the prepared and kept muskmelon juice in the bowl. Add sugar to taste and mix well. You can add in a pinch of cardamom powder and a pinch of saffron if desired too. I have added, but it is optional. Keep it in the fridge to get chilled or you can add in a few ice cubes. 

** “Muskmelon+ Seeds (Chibbada) Juice” is done and ready to be served. This is a very healthy and nutritious drink that can be relished to beat the summer heat as the fruit is available in plenty during the season also muskmelon is loaded with coolant properties making it that much more healthier choice to be relished.

** Note : The addition of sugar is as per personal choice, however, just check out the taste by eating a small piece of the muskmelon/ chibbada before adding on the sugar. Some fruits are very sweet while some are not so. So do check and add in the sugar appropriately.
