"My Amchi Thali 85 ... Kele Koddel (Raw Banana Curry Seasoned with Garlic), Patrade Masala Sannapolo with Cabbage ani Piyavu ghalnu (Spicy thick Dosa with Cabbage+ Onion), Dalitoy (Spiced Tuvar Dal), SheetHa (Rice), Taaka (Buttermilk)” … sometimes after all that goodies and snacks of festive season all you want to eat is something hot and spicy … Yummy Lunch ….
** Diwali festive season comes to an end and after eating all those goodies and snacks and the traditional festival lunch the tongue always craves for something chatpata dishes. I wanted to prepare fish or any other Non-Vegetarian dish, but could not do so as my fish vendor was on Diwali holiday today. Sigh, all have gone on holiday except me, I guess that’s life, when you are a business women even if you want to go somewhere sometimes the piled on workload is so much that it is not possible to venture out. I could not even go to the main market to buy the Non-Veg, decided on spicy veggie Amchi dishes for today. So today's thali is again a Amchi Thali ie Konkani Saraswat Dishes Thali. No issues tomorrow my fish vendor comes back so, its going to be fish all the way for some days. As for today I prepared spicy koddel with raw bananas giving it a strong garlic seasoning.
** Prepared a few sannapolo ie spicy thick dosas with masala to which finely chopped onions and cabbage is added. Sannapolo is also a side dish loved very much in my home so is sanna khotto, I prepare them in various combos. Again, the same can be prepared in many ways, so I will also be sharing a common link for sannapolo along with the link for the above posted one too, try out any variation you like. This particular sannapolo I prepared using the mixture / batter prepared for patrado a few days back and it was a jiffy work for me. I make it always a point to prepared more mixture while preparing patrado as the same can be prepared into sannpolo. I just put it in an tight stainless steel box and put it in the freezer, remove it after a few days, thaw it and add on finely chopped onions and cabbage and remove the dosas, they are simply delicious.
** Ever wondered how we post so many dishes in one go many times, specially thali, yes the trick lies in planning. Planning of dishes sometime way ahead makes your workload lesser. Being a working women, I have done this now for over 30 yrs after my marriage as being foodies, both me and my hubby always want good food on table for lunch while the dinner is light and we adjust with anything that is available, even fruits and milk will do. But, lunch, that one food is something we want on a appealing basis, it has been this way for so long that now, I do not plan as such but my mind works on similar pattern. There are so many dishes that can be adapted into many dishes or the masala can be used over or the batter and so on, be it with lunch dishes or with breakfast dishes. You should try to do it, yourself to cut down on unnecessary workload, it works superbly in this fast and hectic life that we now lead.
** For example, when doing patrado you can prepare about 4-5 dishes out of the same, which is very tempting and delicious variations. You can have them steamed fresh on the first day, the next day you can slice them and tava fry them or you can even dip them in besan batter and deep fry like bajias, then you can finely chop them and make bhaji / upkari with addition of onions and again, if you keep some batter aside you can prepare sannapolo. While preparing Idly, just keep aside a few cups of batter in the freezer for later use. Idly can be relished as it is the first day, the next day you can slice them and tava fry, or cut them into strips and fry them, again you can crumble them and prepare like upma and with that left over batter, you can add some kulith ground and prepare panna doddaka etc. You can also prepare appos out of the same. Again, uttappam can be prepared out the batter. Isn’t it interesting to note that we can have different yummy dishes out of one prepared batter. Try it, you will love it.
** Sharing the links to each of the dish posted above below, please go through the link for that particular recipe. By now, you know this is my standard pattern for combo meals and thali, as there is no point in repeating the same and overcrowding the blog unnecessarily. But, as my friends had requested that I do make a post on thali and combo meals as it helps them to decide on menus at times, I am doing so happily after all I strongly believe that “Sharing Is Caring”.
