** Kartik Ekadashi also known as Prabodhini / Devuthani / Haribodhin Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious Ekadashi that marks the ending of the long wait for Lord Vishnu’s awakening! I have also written a small article on “Kartik Ekadashi” with little knowledge that I have, You may go through the same if interested. Sharing the link to the write up below ….

** Kartik Ekadashi is a great day of celebration for us Hindus, as it is the day Lord Vishnu who is supposed to have taken to a deep sleep of four months ie. from Ashadi Ekadashi to Kartik Ekadashi also known as Chatur Masa wakes up from that deep sleep ... Hindus, observe fasting by avoiding food that has rice inclusion in them and celebrate the awakening of the lord by chanting shlokas and singing bhajans through the day and night.

** So today I prepared this chutney with Amla ie Gooseberry/Avalo/Nellikai along with Curry Leaves ie Kadipatta / karbev along with freshly grated coconut. Today being Kartik Ekadashi, we do not eat garlic or non-veg or for that matter a full meal. Fasting in each one’s own way that best suits them is observed today by almost all Konkani Saraswats throughout the day till the next dawn ie. Dwadashi day.

** During Ekadashi rice in particular in any form is avoided, so is poha / pova as it is also a form of rice. Some observe the fasting with only fruits or just plain water or fruit juices, while some eat food that are allowed in fasting like dishes prepared out of Varai, Sabudana or some other lentils. Sweet potato is another tuber vegetable that is extensively used during the fast.

** "My today's palaharu (lunch) for Kartik Ekadashi Upwas (fasting) has almost been the same throughout many year barring a few occasions. We Konkani Saraswats eat food prepared out of wheat be it flour in making of chapatti or rava in preparing upma or bhakri. So it’s dishes made of any of these items for me on such occasions.

** My food plater posted above is for the full day of today’s Ekadashi Upwas for two of us ie my hubby and me, it includes … “Limbiya Sherbat (Lime Juice), Harve Kele Bajo (Raw Banana Fritters), Gulla Bajo (Green Brinjal Fritters), Kananga Bajo (Sweet Potato Fritters), Cauliflower Bjao (Fritter), Rulav~ Taushe Bhakri (Rava~ Cucumber Thick Dosa), Avalo~ Karbeva Gooli (Gooseberry~ Curry Leaves Chutney)" ...

** I am posting below the link to individual items in the picture above, do try them out and relish with your family and friends, you can prepare it during any Ekadashi or any other fasting day too, or if you are not into fasting there is nothing that stops you from relishing them on any day, these are normal dishes prepared during ordinary days too.
