"Urad Dal- Moong Dal- Idly Rava Khotto (Black Gram Dal- Green Gram Dal- Rice Rava Idly Steamed in Jackfruit Leaves Baskets) served with Veggie Dal and Coriander- Coconut Chutney" ... veggie dal always brings in childhood memories when amma used to keep some dal with veggies aside for me before adding in the sambar masala as I was reluctant to eat spicy dishes ... till date I love having khotto/ Idly dunked in Dalitoy to which I add some veggies thereby giving it a healthier twist ... I have added Corn~ Carrots~ Beans, you may add any of your choice ... tastes awesome served for breakfast or at lunchtime ... Yummilicious ...
** Khotto as you all know by now is actually Idly but the batter is steamed in Jackfruit leaves baskets, a traditional method from Southern parts of India. I have written an article and also mentioned many times before about the usage of them etc. so I will not be repeating the same again. Coming to khotto the one posted in here has already been blogged before, I have posted it about 2 years back. I often prepare this combo khotto and this time here the only difference is that I have served it along with veggie dal. I have made this post for the sake of another combination that can be prepared and served with any khottos of Idly. I have again also posted the method of preparation dal ie Dalitoy as we call in Konkani and here too the basic recipe remains the same. The only addition is veggies.
** I have already written in detail about how during my childhood I chanced upon this awesome Dal with veggies in it. It has been my childhood dish for many years, before I was forced by my mother to grow up and enjoy dishes with spices too. She was worried or else I would end up being a disaster after marriage. Mothers can really be firm at times, I guess I slowly started eating curries and dals with spices and today I am better of cooking and relishing any type of dish, thanks to Amma. But yes, my heart or should I say the child in me still at times want to go back and relive those memories and relish those dishes that were my lifeline. I guess all of us feel it at times, like how I felt today, I so wanted to relish this dish with veggie dal and when hubby said it, there was not looking back.
