"My Simple Veg. Thali 142: Taushe' ani Gajar (Cucumber and Carrot) Slices, Vali- Dali Ambat (Malabar Spinach- Tuvar Dal Curry), Tendle Talasani (Gherikins/ Ivy Gourd Garlic Fry), SheetHa (Rice)" ... been a long time since I prepared Vali-dali ambat, as most of the time it is vali with dry prawns ... so for a change today kept it simple the traditional way ... Yummilicious ....
** Here is an awesome Konkani Saraswat Thali that is a joy to relish specially during monsoon. Do not go by the single dish of Vali ani Dali ghalnu ambat, well, that is the hero of this thali. Actually, we amchies can relish our meal with this one single dish and do not need anything else. Malabar Spinach or Vali is a leafy vegetable, a creeper with thick stems that is one of Konkani Saraswat’s favorite leafy veggie and we prepare many dishes using the same when it's in season. Here as the name goes “Vali ani Dali ghalnu Ambat” is Malabar spinach cooked with tuvar dal, to which ground masala is added and the same is seasoned with onions. It came as a surprise to me when one of my friend asked for its recipe and to my dismay, I found that it was not blogged at all over the years. I had shared many varieties of the same but somehow had missed the traditional one prepared with dal. Well, so here it is, the one that is most sought after dish in my community that tastes wonderful when served with rice. I am sharing a links to the dishes in thali below, as is my usual practice with thali post, do check out through the same. And yes, Please do try out this dish, your family is sure to love it. You can also relish it with chapatti/ roti in which case keep the gravy slightly thicker.
