"My Delicious Amchi Thali 135 : Surna Koota (Yam Curry), Cabbage Piyavu Batate Upkari (Cabbage Onion Potato Bhaji), Mooga Dalitoya (Spiced Moong Dal) served with lemon, SheetHa (Rice), Bajjile Mirsange Happolu (Roasted Red Chilly Papad), Dasheri Aambo (Ripe Mango)" ... Delicious healthy thali food today, for koota, I have microwaved the surnu for koota in just half a tsp of oil and prepared today's dal with moong dal instead of tuvar dal as it is healthier .... Yummilicious …….
** Today’s thali is sort of special as it has "Surna Koota" a medium spicy side dish from Konkani Saraswat Cuisine similar to sasam or tambuli. This is a dish that is not heated and is served by mixing in the fried veggie just before serving. This is done so to avoid the vegetable turning soft by absorbing in the gravy masala by which it will turn sort or limp and will lose its crispness / crunchiness and thereby loose taste. This actually a side dish which a few decades back was widely served during ceremonies or during festive occasions and is somehow lost in today’s changing of eating habits. Do try this dish out and serve it along with other dishes for a yummy delicious meal. Sharing the links to the recipes of each item in the thali above as is my usual pattern on thali and combo meal posts. Please do follow the same for the recipe, prepare them and enjoy with your family and friends.
** Given below are the links to the recipes of individual dishes in the Thali above, please go through the link for that particular dish …..
1.. For the “Surna Koota (Yam Curry)” Recipe, Please follow the link given below ….
2. For the “Cabbage Piyavu Batate Upkari (Cabbage Onion Potato Bhaji)” Recipe, The recipe remains the same except that I have added on some potatoes to the upkari. Just add them after frying the onion, let cook 80% and then add in the cabbage, mix well and cook till done. Please follow the link given below ….
3. For the “Mooga Dalitoya (Spiced Moong Dal) served with lemon” Recipe, Please follow the link given below ….
4. For the Recipe of "Cooking Rice Starch Free / Vanu ghalnu SheetHa", where the Rice is cooked and the water is drained off to remove excess starch, Please follow the link given below ….
5. For “Bajjile Mirsange Happolu (Roasted Red Chilly Papad)” … I have used store bought red chilly papad and just roasted them over open flame and served it immediately. You can apply a thin film of coconut oil above the papads after roasted as it tastes awesome, but is off course your choice.
6. Ripe Mango is off course available still in plenty particularly the Dasheri Variety that though looks green from the outer side, it is ripe and yellow within.
