Krishna ni begana baro ...
Missing the goonj/ echos of "Govinda aala re aala zara matki sambal brujabala" song that rang for decades now into our ears throughout the day turning us literally deaf is silent today ... this silence is much more deafening than the music that played out of speakers ... One never tires of reading/ listening Krishna's childhood leelas. Dahi Handi/ Utlotsavam, is a festive event held next day of Krishna Janamashtami, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna ... little Krishna loved curds and butter very much and being mischivous formed a group of friends, went ahead and emptied them all from neighbours homes in their abscence ... in order to save the curds and butter from the little boy, they filled them in handi/ clay pots and tied them up at a height so that little Krishna could not reach out to it easily ... little Krishna who was named ‘makkhan chor’ for this very act of his did not give up, he along with his friends formed a human pyramid to reach out to the handi ... the boy who reached the top was called 'Govinda' and it was always little Krishna who dared the act ... on reaching top he broke the handi so that the curds or butter would fall down and the same could be relished by all friends together ... for this act of his he was often punished by Yashodha Maiyya his foster mother but the neighbors who had actually complained to the mother themselves came to his aide and protected him from her beatings, as in their heart they loved little Krishna very much and waited for an opportunity to stand by him ... there are many more sweet reminders of the endearing deeds of Lord Krishna which we grew up reading or listening to and it has always brought a smile on our lips and filled our hearts with love for this natkat little blue boy ... but the charm of Dahi Handi which is played today in great pomp in every nook and corner by tying a handi filled with curds on height and youngsters forming a human pyramid to break the same is lost ... we are all living in fear, we could not celebrate the day like we always did for centuries and our heart grieves for it ... there is an incidence while Lord Indra the king of rains, began mercilessly pouring rains non stop to declare his supremacy over the land ... little Krishna is then believed to have lifted the entire Govardhan mountain on his left hand's little finger to protect all by taking shelter under it ... today all through the day, rains have been pounding and lashing the city and it makes me wonder if they are also grieving and calling out to little Krishna, to save the world ... the song that rings in my mind now is ... Krishna ni begane baro ... ಕೃಷ್ನಾ ನೀ ಬೇಗನೆ ಬಾರೋ ... come back and save the world ... come back as Rama ... forgive us for what we've done ... ಕೃಷ್ನಾ ನೀ ಬೇಗನೆ ಬಾರೋ ... You are the only one ... Krishna ni begane baro ... गोविंद बोलो हरी गोपाल बोलो ... राधा रमण हरी गोविन्द बोलो ... Radhe Krishna.
