My Simple Pejje Jevana Veg. Thali No~454 .

“My Simple Pejje Jevana Veg. Thali No~454 : Ambe Peshi (Mango Slice), Beetroot Upkari (Bhaji), Tava Fried Pikkile Nendrabale kele Podi (Ripe Banana Fries), Kani Tambado Ukde Tandla Pejja (Kerala Matta Broken Boiled Red Rice Porridge) topped with homemade Cow’s Ghee (Toop)” … after a few days of heavy meals, I always fall back for a day or two on good old pejje jevana (porridge meals) to balance the tummy rumblings; you know those gudgudu sounds making rounds in tummy … this is a traditional age old trick my mamama (grandmother) advised during childhood and I acknowledge her wisdom, after all she was fit as a fiddle all her life ... you should give it a try, if you have not yet done so … Yummilicious …

** I am sure most of us go overboard at times on delicacies served at functions or even at home when a favorite dish faces them. While the mind alerts not to go overboard the tongue just does not listen and just pursues for a little more. A little more then keeps running on until you realize you have to stop. The nap that follows at times worsens the condition and you take go on a slumber at time for over an hour. This happens when there are back to back festivals or functions and then the trouble shoots.

** Well, we don’t want to be in trouble, do we??? So I go on an one meal a day diet for few days to balance the calories. I drink my cup of adraki chai (ginger tea) with 2-3 biscuits then I keep my mouth shut for say about 6-7 hours, followed by a simple meal of Pejje Jevana (Rice Porridge) or Doodha SheetHa (Rice with milk) along with a bhaji and pickle. Sometimes to cut out the boredom of the meal I include a papad or a tava fried podi with sparing oil, that’s it. The dinner is only haldi/ turmeric milk and a banana.

** I often feel I should follow this pattern for 2 days in a week as with age I believe one needs to curtail the desire of food by keeping it to bare minimum, but until now I have not been able to do so. Well, I am hoping to aim for it atleast in a few years time, until then this is it for me. Sharing links to recipes of all dishes shared in the above thali, as they are already shared in the Blog.
