Yumz ......
** Apples and Pineapples are available almost all round the year now, though it is available more so in winter season. But in Mumbai, we get it almost whenever we want unlike some other fruits. Fruit juice is a craze with me and I love mixing and matching different fruits and prepare combined juices. It is always adviceable to enjoy seasonal fruits and veggies as I strongly feel that God made Nature in such way as to accommodate mankind with that particular veggie or fruit that is suitable for that particular season. Otherwise there is absolutely no reason as to why they are seasonal and beneficial during the same. The creator of universe had the best of interest of man at heart when he created the world. But man being over-wise and mischievous always meddles with nature and disturbs the roots. Addition of different chemicals and manure pertains to availability of these fruits or veggies almost all round the year which was otherwise not heard of say a century back.
** There are many dishes both beverages or other sweet dishes that can be prepared using both these fruits and I have included them before in the blog. Many more to follow, so keep a eagle watch on recipes in my blog. Remaining in touch will not only boost my morale, but makes me think of much more innovative ideas and want to share them here. Well, coming to the juice part I had both pineapple and apples at home. I have prepared some mix and match with these two fruits before and its there in the blog for you. Go through the label of Beverages and you will get lots of them. Today I decided to try out apple and pineapple juice together and it really turned out awesome. Though I must say pineapple flavour overruled apples. Pineapple has a very strong flavor that cannot be hidden unlike apples. But the goodness of the fruits to health is that what counts the most. So go ahead and enjoy the same. But yes chilled off course.
** Ingredients :
Green Apple / Safarchand : 2 mediums sized
Pineapple / Ananas / Avnas : 3-4 cups of the fresh edible fruit
Sugar : Approximately 1 cup.
White Pepper Powder : ½ tsp
Salt : ¼ tsp
Dry Ginger / Shunti Powder : a pinch
Water : About 1 litre
** Remove the outer thick skin and the eyes (the black round dots on the inner flesh are called eyes). Cut it vertically into four and slice of the inner thick core part too. Now cut the soft edible ripe juicy fruit into small pieces. In all you should have about 3-4 cups of the same.
** Wash and cut the apples lengthwise into four and remove the inner core part and discard the same. Cut the remaining into small pieces. I used green variety of apples. You can use any. Also I did not remove the outer skin as the juice will be sieved and did not want to loose out on the nutrients.
** Put the pineapple and apple pieces in a mixer grinder and grind to a smooth pulp with enough water. Remove and sieve it through a sieve that is not very fine into a large vessel.
** Add in the sugar, salt, white pepper powder and dry ginger powder, remaining water and mix well. If you want a sweet juice you can leave out all the spices. I have added white pepper powder to retain the color of the juice and not allow it to get blackish tinge. Put this in refrigerator for a few hours to chill.
** Note : If you want to serve immediately to your family or guests, use chilled water both while grinding and addition later on. You can also add in broken ice cubes while grinding. This juice can be served immediately.
** “Chilled Apple ~ Pineapple Juice” is ready to be served. Pour in tall glasses topped with some ice cubes and serve them chilled immediately. You can serve this any time of the year. But if serving during winter, do not go to serve it very chilled and do remember to add in the spices as they will build up the necessary heat and ward of the chills in the juice.
