** “Sutta Punnava” is a festival that’s falls once in a year in the month of Shravana Masa that is celebrated in every GSB Konkani Saraswat home. This is a yearly ritual of changing of jannavi/ sacred thread worn by male members of family across chest claiming Bhrahminhood. New clothes are also purchased and worn on this day after Pooja and the Naivedyam offering of full meal is offered to God, which has to be NO Onion- Garlic- Non.Veg. Many dishes are traditional and that which appeal to family members are prepared in this occasion, offered to God and then among family and friends.
** Over the years I have tried to change the menu slightly every year, while some of the traditional ones are kept intact. Again, fewer dishes are prepared keeping in view the advanced age and eating pattern. Cheppi Kheeri is usually prepared during Nag Panchami, however I could not do so this year due to some personal issue, so decided to include it here today along with another godshe/ payasam. Do browse through and try them as and when convenient to you, there are plenty of combos shared, you may follow any or make your own mix and match and enjoy with your family and friends.
** Here is my year’s Sutta Punnav Jevan that I had prepared at home as Naivedyam. Sharing links to the recipes of items in thali above as is my usual practice with Thali posts as there already shared elsewhere and there is no point in repeating it again. Inconvenience if any is regretted, do excuse. Try different combo meals and enjoy with family and friends. Once again “A very Happy and Prosperous “Sutta Punnava (Rig-Upakarma)” to all my friends … Stay Blessed~ Spread Happiness ….
