Curry)” … Gajbaje; a traditional curry from GSB Konkani Saraswat Cuisine is prepared with mixed seasonal veggies; a must during festive season to be served along with a few other dishes … “Kamika Ekadashi of Ashada Masa” Greetings to all my friends, may Shri. Hari Bless us all with his choicest blessings …
** Every home follows their own tradition when it comes to rituals and mine is no different. It is a tradition among GSB Konkani Saraswats to prepare this monsoon delicacy “Gajbaje” during Ashadi Ekadashi that falls during the auspicious month of Chaturmasa. Khotto/ Idly is prepared replacing rice with either rava or varai (Indian barnyard millet) to be served along with gajbaje and other dishes during meals.
** I have been following this practice for over 3 decades now, with a few changes in between. However, as the festive occasion falls on monsoon at times due to heavy rains one is not able to venture out making in difficult to get all the veggies in which case I make it point to prepare it on the next following Ekadashi of the same month ie on Ashada Krishna paksha Kamika Ekadashi as was the case this time.
** Off course you can prepare any dishes any time convenient to you, however preparing them on particular festive days ensures continuity of traditions for coming generations. All my dishes in today’s thali are “NO Onion- Garlic- Rice Dishes” that is often prepared on satvik meal days as per the auspicious occasion.
