“My Delicious Veg. Thali~ 324 : Kananga Bajo (Sweet Potato Bajia/ Fries), Poddale Beeyeche Sanna Polo (Snake Gourd Seeds Spicy Dosa), Kulitha Upkari (Horse Gram Bhaji), Kulitha Saaru (Horse Gram Saar), Loni (Butter), SheetHa (Rice)” … preparing, relishing and sharing a thali meal after a long time, almost over 2 months ... it's heartwarming to have kulitha saaru during winter season and when its accompanied by equally tasty dishes then its just that much more scrumptious … I am sure all of you will agree with me ... Yummilicious …
** It’s my favorite Kulith saaru (horse gram saar) for lunch, frankly with this served along with rice, just a papad served is enough for me to relish to heart’s content, but then you have to keep in mind choices of others too isn’t it. Well, I had a small side pieces of sweet potato, so prepared just few bajos and remember I had snake gourd seeds in fridge kept aside to prepare sanna polo when I prepare simple upkari with it, so in all a wonderful meal.
** Horse gram is loaded with health nutrients the only hitch being that it is believed to be slightly heat producing to the body, so it is considered best relished during monsoon or winter seasons when its cold out there. Amma, always insisted that we relish it topped with a dollop of loni (butter) to reduce the heat level or you can serve with a teaspoon of toop (ghee) too, but I somehow always love the saaru topped with fresh homemade loni (butter).
** You can see a small ball of the same both on top of rice and saaru almost melting into it and that the best taste you can every have with this one, try it, if you have not, though I am sure if you are Konkani Saraswat you are aware of it, if not, you will love it. Even if you want to relish it like soup, add on the butter, just a little bit if need be to cut down on calories or if you health conscious, but it should be added and is good for health too.
