** This is a simple thick khatHa-meetHa-teekHa / Tikshe'-Amshe'-Godshe' / Spicy-Tangy-Sweet Fruit Leather (Sun Dried) dish which we Konkani Saraswat’s call as Tambuli, a sort of chutney / dip / gojju that can be savored with snacks or any other dish. Tambuli is prepared in many types both with veggies, fruits or with sun-dried fruit leathers too. I have previously posted quite a few types of tambuli prepared out of mixed fruit jam and mango and of other veggies / their outer skin or seeds too. Traditionally in Southern parts of India only ripe jackfruit and ripe mango saat / fruit leathers were prepared during summer time and stored for monsoon season when they were prepared and relished as side dishes. Nowadays many types of fruit leathers / saat are available and it has become a common site in stores. I had prepared and posted a similar one with strawberry saat, so I will not run into details but share a common link of all types of tambuli at the bottom of this recipe. You can go through them and choose that which you would love to try out.
** Here is the simple Recipe for "Tikshe'-Amshe'-Godshe' Popshpala Saatache Tambuli/ Spicy-Tangy-Sweet Papaya Fruit Leather (Sun Dried) Chutney" … My Style …
** Note : The Popashpala Saat / Papaya Fruit Leather (sun dried) is store bought.
** Soak 2 cups of popshpala / papaya saat (fruit leather) chopped into small pieces in lukewarm water along with a big lemon sized lump of tamarind for about an hour. The water should just soak the fruit leather / saat and tamarind. So, do not add excess water as this water will be used for grinding of the tambuli and excess water will thin out the same.
** Heat 1tsp oil in small kadai add 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai/sasam), then add in a few curry leaves (kadipatta/karbevu), ½ tsp jeera (cumin seeds), 2 tsp coriander seeds (Kottimbir/Dhania), 4-5 Red chillies (kumte mirsanga or kashmiri red chilly) and fry for just few minutes. Add in 2 tblsp of freshly grated coconut (nariyal/soyi) and fry for just a minute or two and remove and let cool.
** Note : Addition of Coconut is optional; if for any reason you do not want to use coconut you can increase the amount of saat/fruit leather for thickness. But personally I love addition of coconut as it not only gives a good thickness to the chutney but also makes it tastier and I always add about 2-3 tblsp of coconut for tambuli.
** Put the above fried and cooled ingredients in a mixer grinder along with 100 gms of grated jaggery/goda (approximately). Now add in the soaked strawberry saat+tamarind along with the all the water in which it is soaked and grind to a smooth paste. Add in more water if necessary, but see to it that the consistency remain thicker than our normal chutney.
** Remove the tambuli in a bowl, check and add salt to taste and mix well. If you do not want to serve the tambuli immediately keep it in the fridge to avoid it getting spoilt. Tambuli should not be heated, hence the storage life gets curtailed. For best result in taste tambuli should always be consumed within a few hours of preparation. Even in fridge, do not store it for more than 24 hours.
** "Tikshe'-Amshe'-Godshe' Popshpala Saatache Tambuli/ Spicy-Tangy-Sweet Papaya Fruit Leather (Sun Dried) Chutney" is done and ready to be served.
