Patrade Usli Piyavu Ghalnu .......
Patrade Usli is a sort of bhaji prepared with the remaining patrades by seasoning them. This is really an interesting variation and awesome dish. I intentionally make more patrades so that I can prepare usli the next day.
Keep the remaining patrades in fridge. This helps in breaking the patrades into nice and equal pieces next day. Chop them into small pieces the next day. You should have about 3-4 cups of the cut patrades.
Roughly chop 3-4 medium sized onions into medium sized pieces after peeling off the skin and keep ready. Add onions is also an option. You can season the patrade pieces without onions too. But adding of onions brings in different taste. You can try both methods.
Heat a thick bottomed kadai with 3-4 tblsp of oil (You can use coconut oil for seasoning, gives a nice aroma). When hot add 1 tsp of rai (sasam), when they splutter add a pinch only of hing powder and 2-3 red chillies broken to pieces with 8-10 curry leaves, fry a bit and add in the chopped onions. Fry the onions till translucent.
Add in the chopped patrade pieces and mix well. Lower the heat to minimum, cover and let it cook in its own steam for 5-10 minutes. Add ½ cup of freshly grated coconut and mix well. Cover and further steam cook for 5 minutes. Remove and serve as accompaniment with Dal chawal or any other dish.
