Raw Banana Talasani / Garlic fry.

Raw Banana Talasani (Bhaji ~ Garlic Fry) ... A side dish prepared with raw bananas that is very famous among Konkani Saraswats in Southern parts of India. This dish goes very well when served along with Dalitoy (Spiced Tuvar Dal) and Rice along with some other dishes ... Yummy Yumz ...

Talasani usually in Konkani Saraswats cuisine means that which is seasoned with garlic / losun. This is one of my favorite side dish / upkari / bhaji and is prepared almost once in two weeks in my home. The garlic flavour gets embedded in raw bananas and gives it a unique and awesome taste. Do try this out and relish it as a side dish with dal-chawal or roti too. It is very simple to prepare and hardly takes time to cook making it that much more easier when in hurry.

Peel the outer skin of 2 large sized raw bananas (the one’s used for making curry), cut into three horizontal cuts then cut them into vertical strips. You should get at least strips of 2 inch in length and 1/3 inch in width. Soak them in water and keep ready. (Soaking in water is done so that the bananas do not discolor).

Remove the outer skin of 15 large sized garlic, crush them a bit with a pestle or heavy stone. Keep it ready.

Heat 2-3 tblsp oil in a wide kadai, when hot add in the garlic cloves and stir till light brown in colour, now add in 3-4 red chillies cut into 1 inch pieces. Fry for bit.

Drain the bananas soaked in water and add to the kadai. Mix well, keep the heat low, add salt to taste, mix well add half cut of water, cover and cook till done.

Keep stirring gently in between to check that the bananas do not get burnt. Add water if you feel it necessary. When done remove and serve hot with Dal and Rice with papad or any curry of your choice.
