Spicy Oats~Egg Omelette.

"Spicy Oats~Egg Omelette" served with Tava fried Brown Bread Toast (with ghee), Tomato Ketchup (store bought) and Strong Ginger Tea (Kadak Adraki Chai) ... Though eggs by themselves are healthy I gave it a healthier twist with addition of finely powdered oats to the omelette and they turned out thick and fluffy ... Yummilicious ... Bf could never have been better than this ......

** I am always ready to have Egg Omelette for bf as I find them very delicious and nutritious to be had at the beginning of the day. As I mentioned before Egg Omelette is a traditional English Breakfast that has caught up on Indian families after the British Left India. Easy and quick to prepare these are very filling and keep you going till lunch time without any hunger pangs. Children love these omelettes and other items prepared with egg too. Today’s children have such a tightly packed schedule that it becomes very difficult for the Mother’s to keep the nutrition intact in dishes. That is when one has to come up with innovative Ideas to include good food into their plates that is both delicious and healthy. It is very difficult to make a reluctant child eat a food that is not appealing to them. So try out different new dishes keeping in mind the nutrition and half the battle is won. Your children too will love the different variety of dishes given to them and will happily enjoy them.

** Building up on good eating habits should always begin from home. A well equipped kitchen is a source of joy to the whole family. The habit we make in our children when they are young will build a healthy life thought their life and will continue for generations. It is very important to always have a good bf as your whole day depends on it. Today we all lead a very hectic life and eating good food ensures we are healthy to keep up with the competitive world. Omelettes are not only easy to prepare they are that much healthier with high protein content in them. I have included many varieties of omelettes that I love preparing giving it gentle twists to make it much more nutritious. Oats and millet are the new ingredients that have caught the attention of people all round the world. Though oats was well known for many decades now, we Indian in our kitchen hardly prepared them. Cooking oats the way it is cooked in the west is somehow not very appealing as it is slightly bland in taste.

** Indians being spicy food relisher's, prefer to cook food spicy and we Konkani Saraswats are no different. Though we relish all types of taste in food, we love spicy food the most and red chilly is used the most in our food. However keeping in mind the health benefits, that are being recognized world wide, One has to give thought to different type of introduction in food, while keeping in mind the family taste and desire too. The person who cooks for the family is in constant search for different type of appealing and nutritious food for their family. Oats has been introduced into Indian Kitchen for a decades now, but it is recently in the last few years that they are getting wider publicity coz. of technology and net work. People all over the world have easy access to network and are now eagerly going through blogs or food group for more options in cooking. I have constantly been asked to post food with inclusion of oats. Well, its new to me too, so will be adding them as I prepare, while keeping in mind the Indian taste preference.

** Here is the simple Method of Preparation of "Spicy Oats~Egg Omelette" … My Style …

** Ingredients :
Eggs / Andey / Motto : 2
Oats Powder : 3 tblsp
Milk : 2-3 tblsp
Onion / Piyav / Kanda : 1 large sized.
Curry Leaves / Kadipatta / Karbevu : 8-10
Green Chilly / Hirvi Mirchi / Tarni Mirsanga : 2-3 less spicy one’s
Kashmiri Red Chilly Powder : 2 tsp (approx)
Ginger / Adrak / Alley : ½ tsp finely chopped.
Garlic / losun : 1 tsp finely chopped.
Haldi / Turmeric Powder : one pinch
Salt to taste

** Ghee for frying the Omelette.

** Note : To prepare the Oats powder just put one cup of oats in a mixer grinder and grind it to a fine texture. Remove and keep it aside. We will use only 3 tblsp and the rest can be kept in airtight container and used later on while preparing any dishes.

** Peel off the skin of onion and chop it to very fine sized pieces and keep this aside. Also finely chop the curry leaves and keep this too separately aside. Cut green chilly into small rings and keep this too ready. Same with ginger and garlic. Keep all the other ingredients ready in a plate before we proceed with the omelette.

** In a porcelain / glass bowl break in the eggs and beat it well with a electric or hand blender. Now add in the milk, haldi, salt to taste and continue to beat for another minute, remove and keep this ready. Now add in finely chopped ginger, garlic and oats powder to the egg mixture and mix well. Keep this aside for about 10 minutes for the oats to absorb moisture. Check consistency and if too think add in 2 tblsp of water and mix well before removing omelettes.

** Now heat a small non stick pan or iron pan or any pan in which you normally make omelette and that which has got a fitting lid for it. When hot enough add in a little bit of ghee spread well on the pan, lower the heat and add in half of the egg-oats mixture into the pan. Cover and cook just for a minute.

** Open the cover, and add in half of the finely chopped onion, curry leaves and the green chillies over the omelette, distributing it evenly all over the omelette. Cover and cook on medium heat for about 2-3 minutes. Remove the lid and sprinkle half of the red chilly powder again evenly all over the omelette. Cover and cook for another minute.

** Check and see if the top of the omelette is done, if done add in a few drops of ghee all over the omelette on top and gently flip it over with the help of a flat spatula and cook for minute uncovered. Now raise the heat to high and cook for another minute or so to get the well cooked burnt look on top, that gives the omelette the best taste. Lower the heat and gently remove the omelette and put it on a serving plate. Proceed to remove the other omelette in similar method.

** "Spicy Oats~Egg Omelette" is done and ready to be served. Omelettes always taste best when served hot right from the tava. Serve them with a few slices of plain bread or toasted bread or Bombay pav. I served the omelette with tava fried brown bread (with ghee) cut into triangles along with some tomato ketchup (store bought) and Kadak Chai (Strong Ginger Tea).

** The omelettes were really fluffy within and tated veru delicious. Try it if you love egg omelettes like my family. Children will love this and if they are reluctant to eat oats as it is, this is one of the best way to make them enjoy this nutritious food without fuss and reap in the benefits of the food. I am going to add in many more recipes soon, so do keep a watch on my blog. Do give me a feedback, you can also send in request to any recipes too. I will try my best to include them.

** Oats are considered to be a tummy full breakfast item, they fill in the tummy and keep you going for hours without hunger pangs. They are supposed to be very good for people suffering from diabetics, bp, and cholesterol. It is also believed to promote weight loss as it is full of fiber and is good for constipation. I think these are enough reasons for us to add them into our diet frequently and enjoy them.
