** I have already written about “Sutta Punnav” but repeating a few facts again for the sake of those who might have missed reading and would love to know about it. This is a festival that’s falls once in a year in the month of Shravana Masa that is celebrated almost in every GSB Konkani Saraswat home. This is a yearly ritual of changing of jannavi/ sacred thread worn by male members of the family across the chest claiming Bhrahminhood.

** New clothes are also purchased and worn on this day after Pooja and the Naivedyam offering of full meal is offered to God which has to be No Onion- No Garlic. Many dishes that are traditional and also that which appeal to family members are prepared in this occasion, offered to God and then amongst family and friends. I try to change the menu slightly every year, while some of the traditional ones are kept intact.

** Do serve some pickle if you have guests coming over as at times despite having a huge menu some still crave for the same. Always serve half a teaspoon of "Salt" at the starting corner of the thali food as you can see in the picture. This is traditionally too served during every function in southern parts of India. Salt is a dish that should be consumed in limits. Every individual has their own preference of salt level in their food.

** By serving a little bit of the same you can cut down the addition of salt in bulk while preparing the dishes and the person can relish the same by helping himself to the salt if need be. By doing so you are also accommodating those who like to have less salt in their food for various reasons. In my home salt is always consumed less from childhood, so it has become a habit to serve a little bit while serving thali for guests.

** Here is my this year’s Sutta Punnav Jevan that I had prepared at home as Naivedyam. As you all know Shravana Masa, the holy month of festivals has already begun and crossed half way through.
