Yummy Grilled Sandwich with Potato Usli.

Yummy Grilled Sandwich with Batate Usli / Potato Bhaji ..........

This Sandwich is the best one I have had so far. Did not expect it to turn out so yummilicious. So glad I tried it out. All my friends too enjoyed it very much. I prepared Batate Usli ie. Potato bhaji a traditional dish of GSB / Saraswat Konkani served usually with Poori. I then put it as a stuffing into between the breads slices by applying tomato ketchup on both the inside sides of the bread. Applied butter on the outer side and grilled it. The result was amazing.

** Preparation of Batate Usli recipe is given elsewhere in this Blog. The link of which I will post at the end of the recipe of Grilled Sandwhich.

Prepare batate usli / mashed potato bhaji out of 5-6 large sized potatoes and keep ready. There is no need of coriander chutney for this sandwich as the bhaji itself has in it all the spices which include green chillies and coriander leaves.

Place 2 bread slices on a flat surface. Apply thick tomato ketchup evenly on the top side of both the slices. Add about 3 tblsp of batate usli / potato bhaji on one of the bread slice and spread it evenly to form a thick layer. Add more if necessary / required. Place the other bread slice inverted on top of this with the tomato ketchup side down. Press gently and evenly so that the usli gets neatly sandwiched between the two slices.

Heat the griller pan or electric sandwich griller. Apply butter on both the sides of the bread. The butter should have been softened at room temperature and should spread evenly. However do use it sparingly as more of butter will burn the slices or it will turn too crispy. Grill on both sides evenly. Remove and cut it into desired pieces. I just cut it into two equal traiangles which is the best way to serve a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining bread slices and potato bhaji. Serve hot during Tea time as a snack or at any other preferred time of the day. I had this for dinner.

Note : The picture of batate usli / potato usli shows potatoes in small pieces. That is so because it made to be served with poori. For Bread Sandwich mash the potatoes well before seasoning in the given recipe so that you get a good texture for filling in the sandwich. You can follow any of the three links given below, they are all almost the same with minor changes and will give the same results. Just try out and enjoy with your family.
