** I have written in plenty about salads and raitas in my blog before to which I will share a common link at the bottom of this recipe for easy access. You may browse through the same for more choice and info and do try them out in your home. This salad is a common one prepared in almost every home round the country, not sure how it got left out for so many years in blogging, go ahead and try it, its awesome.

* Here is the simple method of preparing “Onion- Cucumber- Tomato Raita” … My Style, simple-healthy and tasty, do try it …

** Peel off the skin and finely chop 2 medium sized Onion (Piyavu/ Kanda) and put it in a bowl. Also peel off the skin of one large sized Cucumber (Taushe/ Khakdi) and chop them also finely and add to the onion in bowl. Wash and wipe dry 2 medium sized Tomatoes, slice off the top stem portion and then cut them into small pieces, discarding the inner seeds and add to the above mixture in the bowl.

** Beat 1 cup of Skimmed Milk Curds/ Dahi with 2 tblsp of water to a smooth consistency and add to the ingredients in the bowl and mix well. If too thick you can add in a little bit of water and mix well. Add in 3-4 finely chopped green chillies (tarni mirsanga/ hari mirchi), handful of finely chopped coriander leaves (dhania/ kothambari pallo), pinch of hing/ asafoetida and salt (namak/ meeta) to taste. Mix all the ingredients gently to an evenly coated mixture for 1-2 minutes to blend well.

** Tempering/ Pannaka/ Tadka is Optional and I have not added on the same here, You may do so if desired as it does taste great. Just heat ½ tsp of coconut oil (you can use any other oil), when hot add in ¼ tsp of urad dal/ black gram and when color changes slightly add ½ tsp of mustard seeds (rai/ sasam), when they begin to splutter add few curry leaves (kadipatta/ karbevu) fry for a second, remove and pour it over salad. Now mix all ingredients well. Keep it covered aside for 5 minutes and serve.

** “Onion- Cucumber- Tomato Raita” is done and ready to be served along with other dishes. You can serve it as a side dish for any thali or combo meal or with spiced rice dishes like pulav, biryani, khichidi etc . You can also relish this as it is for lunch/ dinner as it is, if at all you want to go light and avoid having a meal. Do include this delicious raita into your diet and relish them with your family and friends.

** We must include both curds and salads into our daily diet, so it is that much easier if you include raita in its place, this way you assure you consume both of them and so does your family. Many a times due to back-to-back functions or festivals, we tend to overeat a lot, which leads to indigestion. You can always make a huge bowl of this raita, put it in fridge, and relish the same in place of lunch/dinner the following day and trust me it really sets your body right in a day or two, is not that great.
