Virshe'- A Herbal Infusion.

"Virshe' a herbal infusion" ... monsoon brings in some mild discomforts of body pain, cough, cold etc. to many of us ... while the chill in the air is loved by many, for some it becomes uncomfortable too by waking up sleeping pains ...

** At times the dull pains just don't go away, while the chill in air makes it worst, but then that's the Law of Nature, seasons have to change, but many of us have never given a thought about how kind Mata Bhudevi (Vasundhara)/ Mother Earth has been on us ... she has thought of it all and has gracefully bestowed upon us seasonal veggies, fruits and many more ways through which we can take care of overall health through changing seasons ... yet either by ignorance or disbelief due to modern thoughts and way of life, we just do not do it or may not even know about it, so we just reach out to readily available medicines over the counter and pop it up ... as it's easy giving quick relief ...

** Virshe' is a Herbal Infusion with the addition of mildly flavoured spices, seasoned with Garlic in pure homemade cow's ghee and sipped hot in small doses … here either particular plant/ tree- leaves, bark, roots, flowers etc. are used depending upon its composition and our needs ... here all ingredients used have their own medicinal value ... this is a must to be given after delivery/ child birth to the young Mother atleast among amchigele's, for recuperation of health, as the body needs to bounce back to fitness ...

** However, the same can be consumed by anybody in limits, as it is beneficial for overall health too … with changing times, we now get many such preparations in the name of health promoters bottled up and sold at exorbitant prices in stores ... but given a thought, some sort of preservative has to be added for it to remain good, as that which is sold needs to have shelf life, isn't it?? ... the next time you reach out for such powdered pack or liquid pack read the ingredients mentioned, check out for ISI mark or some authenticity ... sometimes those written in tiny lines go unnoticed ...

** Many types of virshe' prepared using tree barks, roots, leaves, flowers etc. are difficult to prepare in cities for 2 reasons non- availability and authenticity, though I believe you can now order them online through reliable sources ... If you can get them from hometown, then plz. do so, as you can easily store them in air tight containers and they remain good as roots and barks do not spoil as such ... otherwise like me you can always try out with fresh leaves of white jasmine, parijata (raat rani/ night jasmine), shankpushpa (butterfly pea/ blue pea) etc. ...

** These are common plants that grow well in any weather and are found almost all round the country ... try them, if not in your own home/ compound, then atleast in your friendly neighbors place you are bound to find them and no one will say no to sharing of few leaves as otherwise too they fall away in given time ... but if not sure, then do check out from known sources if those leaves/ barks are used for consumption ... half knowledge can be dangerous, so be very careful when it comes to matters that you do not know of ...

** Amma, always used to prepare Virshe' and Kashay in larger quantities when someone in the family had delivered so that all can relish it in small doses ... that is how we all got into the habit of having Virshe' and now she insists otherwise too that we have it a few times during monsoon and winter season ... it just tastes wonderful when sipped steaming hot especially when its raining heavily ... Just a few days back too when my back nerve got pinched and I had lot of pain, Amma insisted that I have a few doses of Virshe' along with my medicines for faster relief ...

** It is believed that Virshe' taken on weekly basis gives relief in kurta ani anga dookhi (back and body aches), which is the main issue with almost all of us these days as we have jobs that needs to be done sitting for hours ... off course there one can't guarantee that the pains will go away, I still have them due to negligence over long period, we are now more used to stronger medicines and these do take time in giving relief and one nreds patience ... but there is absolutely no harm in taking them unless you are allergic to it ... so the first time just take a small dose and then continue doing so ...

** I am sharing link to the preparation of Jasmine Virshe' below which I have already blogged a few years before ... if interested do check it out, try to get them, prepare it in your home, sip it on steaming hot and reap in loads of health benefits ... Swast Raho- Khush Raho ...
