Stay Blessed- Spread Happiness ....
** This is simple-delicious festive Naivedyam Lunch prepared every year with minute difference in dishes during "Shahsti of Navaratri Days". This day is referred to as Nave Jeveche (in Konkani) ie eating of new harvest food. New rice that was cultivated is used as new grains are available at this time of the month and is considered auspicious to prepare them during these nine days. It is a custom/ tradition followed in almost every home in GSB Konkani Saraswat Community, however, the day falls differently to each one in these nine days depending upon their Kula Devu ie family diety.
** Our Kuladevi is Mahalasa Narayani (Mardol; Goa) and on 6th day, that is sashti on auspicious Navaratri Days, we observe it by offering a sweet dish along with rice and other dishes to Goddess and there by distributed as prasadam among family members. As all the nine days are festive days there is always dishes and sweet dishes prepared, so I keep it simple without preparing too many dishes on a single dish. In many homes people fast on all 9 days and refrain from any food except fruits and milk. In my home we observe the nine days with one satvik meal with a sweet dish offered as naivedyam.
** Today I thought of preparing this simple meal which includes our favourite moong dal payasam along with taushe hullela as this is the season for those monsoon cucumbers that tastes best when prepared in curry form. These are common dishes I prepare in many occasions and I must have shed them often before too.
