“Simple Tomato~Onion Salad” … This is a simple ~ tossed salad that I love very much … No fuss and minimum spice, that is very easy to prepare and goes very well as a side dish along with your other favorite dishes ... Yummy Yumz .....

Salads are a must in most of the homes. A little bit of salad served as a side dish goes a long way in promoting good health. Salads are loaded with health benefits, less in calories, provided they are prepared in a healthy manner. There are various combinations of salads that can be prepared and I have already included many in the Blog. Just search salad option and you will get them in plenty. Simple onion or tomato onion tossed salad is one of my hubby’s favorite salad. He can polish off the whole bowl himself. I prepare this salad both with or without the addition of curds. Sometimes I like to keep it simple and prepare it just this way, that’s it. It simply tastes yumz. Healthy and light on tummy too. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients :
Tomatoes : 2 large sized
Onion : 1 large sized or 2 medium
Green Chillies : 3 less spicy one’s.
Hinga Uddaka / Asafoetida water : 1 tsp
OR
Hing / Asafoetida Powder
Lemon : ½ of small sized lemon.
Coriander leaves : 1 tsp finely chopped.
Salt to taste

** Wash and wipe the tomatoes and chop them finely into small pieces. Keep it ready aside.

** Peel off the skin off the onions and chop them also into fine pieces. Keep it ready aside.

** Cut the green chillies into medium sized pieces giving them slightly slant cuts and keep it ready aside.

** Put the chopped tomatoes, onions and green chillies in a bowl. Squeeze out the juice of half a lemon into it. Add salt to taste and the hing water / powder along with the finely chopped coriander leaves.

** Toss the salad with the help of a large fork / spoon to mix well and your fresh and healthy salad is ready.

** “Simple Tomato~Onion Salad” is done and ready to be served. Serve this as an accompaniment with any spicy curry and pulav or any other dishes of your choice. It goes very well with any dish.

** For Preparing of Hing / Asafoetida Water From Gummy Hing : Hing water is prepared by putting a small marble sized gummy hing (available in South Indian Stores) into a glass bottle and adding about a small cup of boiled and cooled water to it. Within a few hours the hing will slowly melt and you will get a thick whitish liquid. This is hing water. You can keep this in the fridge and use sparingly as and when needed. We GSB / Saraswat Konkani people usually prepare the same and keep it in the fridge always and use the same for dal, patrado or any other humman etc. You can add hing / asafoetida powder if you do not have access to the gummy form of hing.

** You can use the search option for "Salad / Raita" where you will get many more healthy salad recipes. Do try out various types of salads to relish as a side dish along with your other favorite dishes.
