Thali No~ 421: Bajjile Pappodu (Roasted Papad), Kulitha Upkari (Horse Gram Bhaji/ Stir Fry), Alsande Upkari (Yard Long Beans Bhaji/ Stir Fry), Kulitha Saaru (Horse Gram Saar), Loni (Butter), SheetHa (Rice)” … Time flies and here we are fast approaching the end of year and my to-do-list has not even been started … going light after back to back festive day meals … simple dishes are always heartwarming and kulitha saaru- upkari is my favorite … remember to add a dollop of butter to steaming hot saaru while serving, it not only tastes delicious but also helps in balancing the excess heat created in body … Yummilicious …
** We always follow festive days by simple heartwarming meals for a few days and trust me it is very important to do so. In the process of keeping up with the fast pacing life we forget to give rest to our body and mind at frequent intervals, the importance of which I realized late in life. The precious time is lost by the time body begins to creek, so do take out for fresh home cooked meals, exercise and rest for good lifestyle.

** You can serve the saar/ saaru topped with homemade or store bought “Loni (Butter)” or skip the same if not desired. However, horse gram/ kulith produces excess heat in the body and butter balances it and my Amma always served it this way and from childhood I have loved the taste of melted butter on steaming hot kulitha saaru very much and follow it to date. In case you do not have butter, you may serve with ghee.
