“Ukdo Tandla Oondi (White Boiled Rice Steamed Dumplings), Turichya Ghugrya (Whole Black Pigeon Pea/ Kaali Tori Curry), Adrak Chai (Ginger Tea), Khajoor (Dates) Syrup” … Oondies taste best served with thin textured spicy curries … I had kept aside some of the gravy of Turichya Ghugrya (Kali Tori Curry) to be served next morning for breakfast with Oondies, as somehow I knew it would taste excellent and I was absolutely right, the soft rice balls dunked in spicy gravy were indeed a joy to munch on … it tastes awesome, do try it … Yummilicious …
** Preparing Oondi after a longtime, not because I don’t like it, in fact I love it dunked in spicy gravy dishes or when served with any jaggery based side dishes. Well, the truth is my unability to stir the ground batter coz. of spondilitis which aggrevates the pain, the same goes in preparation of shevai too. All these dishes which were often a part of breakfast routine that were prepared atleast once in 2 months are now hardly seen on the table and I feel so let down at times. But then one should not drown self pity but fight it out and thanks to hubby he now helps me in kitchen chores that are weight bound. Hopefully, now I can go ahead and prepare more dishes with hubby’s help which are beyond my ability now. I always endorse, one should take out precious time to prepare our traditional cuisine so that they remain preserved and be passed down generations for good health.
** For over a month now Oondies were doing rounds in my mind as it was almost over a year since I ate them, finally I sought hubby’s help and went ahead and prepared these Ukdo tandla Oondies and they turned out lovely, which we ate to our heart’s content dunked in Turichya Ghugrya (Whole Black Pigeon Pea/ Kaali Tori Curry), my previous days curry which I had kept aside to be served for breakfast with Oondi and it was a fantastic combo. Trust me Oondies taste as delicious with gravy dishes as with godda ravo (jaggery based dishes). Sharing links to recipes of all dishes shared in the above picture, as is my usual practice with post that include more Items as they are already shared in the Blog elsewhere and there is really no point in repeating the same. ** I always purchase “Khajoor (Dates) Syrup” from stores which is readily available. It is definitely a better and healthier option to serving with godda ravo (jaggery syrup) which is a traditional method of serving Oondies with. Again, you can serve with a few other options which go well with the Oondies like pineapple jaggery syrup, hogplum jaggery syrup, piyava (onion) gojju etc. Sharing a common link below …
