Pova (Beaten Rice) Usli..........
Take a large bowl and put 6-8 cups of pova(thin variety)in it. Crumble the pova bit to soften it by sprinkling water over the pova and tossing it over and mixing it with hands.
The pova should get softened and crumbled texture but not mushy. So do not add more water. Add in one cup of freshly grated coconut, salt to taste and mix well. Keep this ready.
Heat a thick bottomed Kadai with 2-3 tblsps of oil, when hot lower the heat to medium and add in 1/2 tsp of urad dal, when the colour changes to slightly brown add 1 tsp of rai (Sasam) when it splutters add in 4-5 green chillies slit lengthwise (plus or minus depending on individual taste), 10-12 curry leaves, 1/2 tsp hing powder and mix well.
Fry for a minute and immediately add in the pova coconut mixture, and mix well till the seasoning has mixed well with the pova. Lower the heat to minimum. Cover and let cook on its own steam for 5-10 minutes. Keep mixing in between.
Serve hot for breakfast or snack at any time.
