“My Simple Heartwarming Veg.Thali No~ 393 : Kadgi- Ambuli Adgai (Raw Jackfruit- Raw Mango Pickle), Kooka Upkari (Chinese Potato Bhaji/ Stir Fry), Kele Kachri (Raw Banana Chips), Dalitoy (Spiced Tuvar Dal), SheetHa (Rice)” … one of my favourite meals from childhood is kele kachri- Dali- SheetHa, somehow I have always preferred kachri to papad and never tire of relishing it during meals … Kooka- a seasonal veggie; is a favourite of almost all GSB Konkani Saraswats and though its a little bit tiring and time consuming on cleaning and slicing front, nevertheless we do make it a point go that extra mile in doing so and enjoy them through the season either prepared as bhaji or added to curry … adgai definitely is another favourite nonche of almost every amchi … so, in all, today's meal is definitely a scrumptious one… Yummilicious …
** As mentioned in the title above this is a simple veg. thali that has all favorite items of almost every GSB Konkani Saraswat. While dalitoy- sheetHa is a regular in almost every home, kooka upkari too is prepared on regular bais when in season ie winter. Though kooka is a little bit tiring and time consuming on cleaning and slicing front, nevertheless we do make it a point go that extra mile in doing so to enjoy them either as upkari or added on to curries, they have unique taste of their own unlike potatoes and it’s a favourite of all GSB’s. You will find plenty of dishes in the Blog prepared using them and they are all wonderful.
** Coming to Nendrabale Kele Kachri ie Raw Banana Chips/ Wafers, I must confess about my weakness of relishing it with dalitoy- sheetHa (Dal-chawal) and if you have not yet tried this combo, then i suggest you should, who knows like me, you may love it too. Somehow one always serves papad/ oodi/ fryums etc. and I always wondered why not chips, be it prepared using raw Banans or potatoes or sweet potatoes, I can savour any, during meals and I have done so through childhood and continue to do so even now, just love to relish it that way though I am the only one to do in my home, well, I guess we all have our own preferences.
** Adgai, as I mentioned is a spicy pickle/ nonche another one exclusively from GSB Konkani Saraswat Cuisine that is loved by all. By and large it is prepared with tender raw jackfruit along with raw mangoes when both are in season. The only problem with this pickle is it has a short shelflife and should be consumed within a few days, though you can keep it for about 2 weeks in fridge. I always make it a point to prepare them atleast a few times in a year, as we love it and when not in season, I do prepare the same with a few other veggies too. You will find a few of them in my Blog. If you use search option or use the links shared below.
** As for Dalitoy (Spiced tuvar dal) well its referred to often as kula devu among GSB's, meaning family diety. It is one dish that stays on from birth to death, sort of a comfort giving obedient companion. As for that matter dal be it prepared with any pulses always holds a prominent place in meals of almost every Indian be it in any religion. While in southern parts of the country it is served slightly thinner textured with rice in the northern parts its preferred thicker in consistency to be served with roti, whatever be the staple food, dal does hold its place in meals of every home, in heart of every individual. So, enjoy it the way you like it.
** Coming to Thali, most of the dishes have already been shared and I share thali posts only for the sake of combination reference, a request from my friends. And though I do understand there is nothing great about it, I felt there was nothing wrong too in sharing them if it helped some decide their menu. Having said that I always encourage all to make their own combos of serving dishes as per their family preference; as a meal should always be enjoyed with individual liking. Sharing links to the recipes for the items in the thali above, so that you can browse through and try them as and when desired to be enjoyed with your family and friends.
** I must confess that some of the dishes shared may look repeated with exception of few items, but then each combo is unique in its own way. Though I too at times feel I have not exhausted on ideas of mix and match of dishes for thali, I somehow get a few that I feel should be shared with all here, especially when it comes to simple daily meals, after all these are what we prefer to enjoy on daily basis, isn’t it ??? I have moved to simple combo/ solo meals these days and will try to add on more with time, as I do understand with changing times and healthcare being of utmost priority these days it’s what is advised and preferred.
** I will be sharing both Veg and Non. Veg Solo/ combo/ thali meals, so do subscribe and be in touch. You can follow me even on my Facebook page and Instagram profile where in there are always new as well as old posts being shared on daily basis.
