Simple Sliced Onion Salad/ Piyava Koshimbir.

“Simple Sliced Onion Salad/ Piyava Koshimbir” … here is a simple tossed onion salad with spiced tempering that tastes great served as side dish during meals ... tastes best served with any spicy curry or dishes or mildly spiced rice items … do try it and serve with it with any dish of your choice ... Yummilicious ...

**Salads are a must in most of the homes including mine especially when to be served with spicy rice dishes like pulav/ biryani etc. Salads are loaded with health benefits provided they are prepared in a healthy manner. A little bit of salad served as a side dish goes a long way in promoting not only good health to your family but also building good habits to last a lifetime and continue for generations.

** Simple onion tossed salad is one of my hubby’s favorite salad and trust me he can polish off the whole bowl himself. I prepare onion salad with the addition of other veggies or curds in many mixed variations as is the veggie available. However, sometimes I like to keep it simple with just finely sliced onions with seasoning, that’s it;  as both of us love the taste of the fresh juicy onions sprinkled with tadka very much.

** There are various combinations of salads that can be prepared with plenty of different varieties of veggies with/ without addition of curds and they all turn awesome, healthy and perfect to be served during each meal. I have already included plenty of them and will be doing so in future as and when I prepare. Do subscribe to my Blog, follow me on my FB page and on Instagram to not miss out on any posts.

** Here is my recipe for “Simple Sliced Onion Salad/ Piyava Koshimbir” ... my style, do give it a try if you love onions like us, its awesome ...

** Ingredients :
Onions/ Piyavu/ Kanda : 3 large sized
Green Chillies/ Tarni Mirsanga/ Hari Mirchi : 4-5 less spicy one’s.
Lemon/ Lime/ Limbiyo/ Nimboo : 1 small sized.
Salt/ Namak/ Meeta : to taste

** For tempering/ Pannaka/ Tadka :
Coconut Oil/ Nariyal Tel/ Nariyal Tel : 1 tblsp
Mustard Seeds/ Rai/ Sasam : 1 tsp
Jeera/ Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp
Hing/ Asafoetida Powder : 1 tsp
Curry Leaves/ Kadipatta/ Karbevu : 6-8 fresh one’s

** Peel off the outer skin off the onions and slice them into very thin slices lengthwise. Put this in a bowl and keep it ready aside.

** Cut the green chillies into medium sized pieces after cutting them lengthwise and add them to the onions, mix well and keep it aside.

** Squeeze the juice of lemon to the ingredients in bowl, add salt to taste and mix all the ingredients well with hand seeing to it that you loosen and separate the onions slices. Crush chillies a bit for the spice level to get mixed well.

** For tempering/ Pannaka/ Tadka : Heat coconut oil in a small pan, when hot, add mustard seeds, when they begin to splutter, lower the heat and add jeera and fry for a second, then add hing powder, curry leaves and fry for another 2-3 seconds. Remove and pour this over the prepared and kept salad and mix well.

** With the help of a large fork/ spoon gently mix the tempering with the salad well to be well mixed in with all the ingredients in the bowl. Cover and keep aside for 10- 15 minutes for the flavors be infused in the salad well.
