Wishing All My Friends A Happy Navarathri ….

May Goddess Maa Durga empour you and your family with her Nine Swaroopa’s of Name, Fame, Health, Wealth, Happiness, Humanity, Education, Bhakti and Shakti. May Goddess also make all of us Brave and give us the Strength to always fight against Evil and do Good in whatever little way we can. Stay Blessed …… Always

Navratri is an extremely prominent and most famous Hindu festival of India, which is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is celebrated with great devotion for a period of nine days and finally the 10th day marks the most famously known Vijayadashami or Dussehra. On this day large sized effigy of the demon king Ravana is burnt to signifying the victory of good over evil and positivity over negativity.

The legend goes that Mahishasura, a mighty demon, obtained eternity power by worshiping Lord Shiva. This made him not only wicked and cruel but power hungry too. He started harassing innocent people and set out to win all the three lokas / three world’s. This appalled all the Gods and they appealed Lord Shiva to help them out. To protect the world form the wicked demon the “Trinity ~ Brahma, Vinshnu and Shiva” united their powers to create a devine female warrior as women was the only weakness of the demon. So the devine and most beautiful Goddess Durga, Maa Shakti was born for this very purpose.

So smitten was Mahishasura with desire for Goddess Durga, that he asked her to marry him. The Goddess agreed in the condition that within 10 days he would have to win her over in battle. The proud and filled with ego demon agreed immediately. The battle is said to have continued for 9 Days and Nights and on the 10 th day Goddess Durga is believed to have beheaded Mahishasura the demon and won the battle for the benefit of people.

Thus Navarathri festival came to be celebrated with pomp and glory by worshiping Goddess Durga in 9 different forms and the 10th day marks as Vijaya~Dashami meaning Vijaya – victory and Dashami meaning 10 day in sanskrit. The first 3 days are dedicated to Devi Durga the next 3 days to Devi Lakshmi and the last 3 days to Saraswathi all three forms of Devi Shakti, the divine incarnation invoked and Hindu religious people worship goddess in the form of universal mother.
