Amla (Gooseberry) Juice with Sabja (Basil) Seeds.

"Amla (Gooseberry/ Avalo/ Nellikayi) Juice with Sabja (Basil) Seeds" ... Both amla and sabja are loaded with lots of nutrients that are health promoters, do add them on to your diet and reap in the benefits ... Hum fit hey toh hamara family fit rahega ... Yummilicious ...

** Back to fruit Juices after a hiatus of unpredictable rains that caused havoc everywhere. Though at certain place in the country it is still a cause of worry, looks like in Mumbai, it has bid adieu and the October heat has taken over now in November. Ahhha Nature too has become nasty this year and is playing a big spoil sport spoiling anything and everything that comes across its way. I have had to chuck off lots of flours and pulses as they got infested with very tiny hardly noticeable to naked eye. Well, I did not want to take chances, so had to dispose off the same. As the heat is back, so is the thirst within each one of us.

** I had some Amla in my fridge, so decided to prepare some juice and relish the same adding on some sabja seeds. Amla is high in vitamin C and great for cold ad cough. It is an anti oxidant and has lots of other health benefits too, so does sabja. I will not run into details, as you can always check it out on net, but yes, I do enjoy having amla in different ways, sometimes I just boil them a little bit and eat, sometimes in juice form and many a times I add it on in preparation of gojju or chutney. Today it is simple juice to which I soaked and added on some sabja seeds, that’s it, tasty thirst quencher ready to be sipped on.

** Here is my simple methof of preparing "Amla (Gooseberry/Avalo/Nellikayi) Juice with Sabja (Basil) Seeds" … My style …

** Soak one tablespoon of Sabja/Basil seeds in one cup of water for about an hour or till they are well swollen in size. Keep this ready aside.

** Wash and slice of sides of Amla, say about 5-6 large sized. Put them in a small pan with about 1 cup of water and cook for about 6-8 minutes till they soften a bit, remove and keep them covered aside to completely cool down. You can also microwave it for 4-5 minutes, I prepare it at times.

** Once the amla has cooled down remove the cooked flesh portion well and discard the inner seed. Add this into a mixer grinder along with 1 cup of sugar, pinch of saffron, ½ tsp of kala namak, pinch of yellow color, 10 pepper corns and grind to a very smooth paste. Add in 2 more cups of chilled water and further grind for few minutes.

** Strain the ground amla through a very fine sieve and check the consistency. Only if necessary add in water and mix well. Add in a large pinch of cardamom powder and the prepared and kept sabja seeds and mix well. Put it in fridge to get chilled for an hour or two and it is ready.

** "Amla (Gooseberry/Avalo/Nellikayi) Juice with Sabja (Basil) Seeds" is done and ready to be served. Serve it chilled in glasses along with some snacks for mid morning hunger pangs or if you friends come over for a chit chat. It tastes loves when served cold, you can add on few ice cubes if you like to serve it that way. Enjoy this healthy coolant with your family and friends and do try to give me a feedback if possible.
