Green Peas ~ Wild Cucumber ~ Onion Raita / Salad ...... A nutritious salad / Raita seasoned with chaat masala ......
This one is a simple raita that you can relish with parathas, pulavs, rot etc. I have just added in some cooked green peas along with wild cucumber that is available in plenty during monsoon season along with some onion.
Beat one cup of skimmed milk curds and keep it ready aside. Peel off the skin of one medium sized wild cucumber or half of it if too large. Wild cucumbers usually are very large with dark green skin. These are available in plenty during monsoon season especially during Ganesha chaturthi celebration times. Chop them into small pieces. Peel of the skin of 2 large onion and chop them also into small sized pieces.
Wash about one cup of shelled peas, drain well and microwave the peas for 2 minutes in a glass bowl. If not using microwave method you can cook them on gas with little bit of water. Do not add in more water as we do not need to add water here.
In a bowl add in the chopped wild cucumber pieces, onions and the cooked peas. Now add in the beaten curds, salt to taste and mix well. Season with ½ tsp of hing powder, dash of coarsely crushed pepper powder, a dash of chaat masala and finally chilly powder depending upon how spicy you want the raita to be. Mix well and serve immediately as an accompaniment with any dish or pulav of your choice.
