** Goddess Lakshmi pooja is celebrated with great pomp in India. The festival is observed almost in every Hindu home in their own way, however by large it is usually performed during late evening period on Amavasya Day. I have written about the pooja elsewhere and you can check up on the stories section for the same. Gud Poha or Godu Povu as in konkani is Beaten rice prepared with melted jaggery with addition of coconut and is almost a must as Naivedyam / offering to God, for the evening Pooja. Though with changing times, people have adapted to different methods, traditionally this was the sweet prepared and offered to the Goddess along with other dishes. During the lunch time too a sweet dish is prepared as an offering to Lord Kubera the God who actually grants wealth along with Goddess Lakshmi. A few other items are prepared for lunch as it is usually a holiday and the family gathers together to celebrate the festival. I prepare different dishes every year as dishes that have No Onion-No Garlic is the only criteria during this festival. I am posting the links to each of the items in my Lakshmi Pooja festival thali, and you may go through the link for the recipe of that particular item that you wish to prepare.
