My Festive Thali 79.

My Thali 79… Sharing my Vijaya Dashami / Dassehra Thali ~ Naivedyam ... with all my friends here ... During Vijaya Dashami (Dussehra) among Konkanies lunch is prepared and offered to God which is known as Nava Jevuche meaning new harvest crop food … A special occasion in Hindu homes that is celebrated as a tribute to both Goddess Durga and Lord Rama for their victory over ending Mahishasura Demon (by Goddess Durga) and Ravana (by Lord Rama) …...

** We, Konkani Saraswats are very well known for our passion of food and it is believed that we just need and occasion to relish them on. There are always many dishes prepared as Naivedyam on any given festive occasion and are always offered as Naivedyam to God before distributing the same. Navaratri is celebrated with great pomp with 9 days of festival where in tribute to Goddess Durga is given and the tenth day concludes as the Victory of Good over evil by killing ravana by Lord Ramaji and Mahishasur by Durga. The tenth day ie on Vijaya Dashami / Dussehra the festival is celebrated with great pomp specially in temples where the installed devi Idols for 5 or 10 days are then taken on a procession with other tabalos and immersed in water. I will not run into the story, but it is also celebrated as Nave Javuche, that is the new harvesting celebration. New rice obtained is cooked and they are many more rituals connected with it. But I will conclude here wishing all of you a very Happy Dassehra, May there be always victory of good over evil and may God Bless us all with the strength to follow the path of righteousness. Stay Blessed, spread happiness.
