"Sweet~Spicy Drumstick Leaves (Moringa/Mashing Saanga Pallo)~Amla (Avalo/Gooseberry)~ Tender Ginger Chutney" … A delicious khatta~meetha~teekha chutney that is loaded with health benefits which tastes great when served with any dish of your choice like … dosa, idly, appo, sandwich, roti, cutlets, bhakri, ambado … Yummy Yumz …..

** Chutney needs no introduction as I am sure the word itself is enough for imagination of various types of the same prepared and relished in each home. I love experimenting or should I say adding healthier options of ingredients while preparing chutney. Usually we add tamarind while grinding chutney to bring in that tangy taste. However, any veggie that does the same can be added to. I have added amla many times as not only it is loaded with health benefits but is easier on storing unless some other ingredients. Again it is loaded with Vit.C which is very important for retaining good health among both young and old alike. Drumstick leaves / Moringa leaves also has immense health benefits and so has ginger. I don’t think I need to specify these more to anyone as in todays world of network all are aware of the same. In all I would like to say that this one is a chutney that is there to stay in my kitchen and so should it be in yours.

** Here is the simple method of preparing "Sweet~Spicy Drumstick Leaves (Moringa/Mashing Saanga Pallo)~Amla (Avalo/Gooseberry)~ Tender Ginger Chutney" …. My Style …

** Wash well and put one cup of drumstick leaves (Moringa) in a thick bottomed kadai with little bit of water and cook for about 3-5 minutes covered. You should use only leaves and discard the stems also there is not need to overcook the leaves. Remove keep aside and allow to cool completely.

** In a mixer grinder add in half a cup of freshly grated coconut, 3 amlas (avalo/gooseberry) sliced and cut into portion (discard the seed), 4-5 green chillies chopped to pieces, 3-5 fresh curry leaves (Kadipatta), 2-3 inch pieces of ginger chopped fine, pinch of oam seeds (carom/vonvo), salt to taste, 2-3 tblsp of Jaggery powder (grated goda/gud) along with the cooked drumstick leaves and grind to a smooth paste with a little bit of water. Remove and store in an airtight container in fridge and use within 2 days.

** Note : The addition of ginger is as per individual liking, I added on a little bit more as fresh tender ginger is available during monsoon season and it has a unique taste of its own which is very much loved in my home. You may add as per your judgement keeping in mind your family preference.

** Note : Chutney does not have much shelf life if kept in fridge too as the addition of water and coconut always makes it not retain for more than 36 hours. However, you can divide and put them in small containers and store in freezer, remove and thaw and use as and when required. This remains fresh for about 2 weeks.

** "Sweet~Spicy Drumstick Leaves (Moringa/Mashing Saanga Pallo)~Amla (Avalo/Gooseberry)~ Tender Ginger Chutney" is done and ready to be served. You can serve this as an side dish with anything like, Idly, dosa, bhakri, roti, poori and also cutlets. I served it with potato-sweet corn-oats tikki on day one and on the next day I served it with Rava-jawari-Bhakri and it tasted simply awesome.

** This same chutney can be used for sandwiches too or batat vada. If using for sandwich you may slightly decrease the amount of jaggery if you want it to be spicier. But trust me if you make the other filling in the sandwiches spicier than the same chutney as it is works well. I have successfully used this for all types of combos. Do try this out and relish with your family and friends and give me a feedback possible.
