Simple Onion Salad.


“Simple Onion Salad” … This is a simple seasoned ~ tossed salad with only onions, that is very easy to prepare and goes very well as a side dish with spicy curry along with some mildly spiced rice … You can also serve this with any dish of your choice ... A delicious salad for onion lovers ... Yummy Yumz ....


Salads are a must in most of the homes. A little bit of salad served as a side dish goes a long way in promoting health. Salads are loaded with health benefits provided they are prepared in a healthy manner. There are various combinations of salads that can be prepared and I have already included many in the Blog. Just search salad option and you will get them in plenty. Simple onion tossed salad is one of my hubby’s favorite salad. He can polish off the whole bowl himself. I prepare onion salad with the addition of other veggies or curds. But sometimes I keep it simple and prepare it just the way he love ie tossed salad. Just finely sliced onions with seasoning, that’s it. It simply tastes yumz. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients :
Onions : 3 large
Green Chillies : 3 less spicy one’s.
Lemon : 1 small sized.
Salt to taste

For tempering :
Oil : 1 tblsp
Mustard Seeds / Rai / Sasam : 1 tsp
Jeera / Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp
Hing / Asafoetida Powder : 1 tsp
Curry Leaves : 6-8 fresh one’s


** Peel off the skin off the onions and slice them into very thin slices lengthwise. Put this in a bowl and keep it ready aside.

** Cut the green chillies into medium sized pieces after cutting them lengthwise and add them to the onions. 

** Squeeze the juice of the lemon into the bowl. Add in salt to taste. Now mix all the ingredients well with hand seeing to it that you loosen and separate the onions slices. Also crush the chillies a bit for the spice level to get mixed in.

** For Tempering : Heat oil in a small pan. When hot, lower the heat and add in the mustard seeds, when they begin to splutter add in the jeera and once they get fried, add in the hing and curry leaves. Fry for a second, remove from fire and add to the salad in the bowl.


** With the help of a large fork gently mix the seasoning with the salad. Cover and keep aside for 10 to 15 minutes for the flavors to get seeped in. 

** “Simple Onion Salad” is done and ready to be served. Serve this as an accompaniment with any spicy curry and pulav or any other dishes of your choice. It goes very well with any dish.
