Panna Doddak (Seasoned Thick Pancakes) With Amul Butter ....

Udida dali + Mooga Dali + Varai + Nanchano ghalnu Panna Doddak / Urad Dal + Moong Dal + Indian barnyard millet + Finger Millet (Ragi) thick Seasoned Pancakes ..... A very healthy Pancake rich in Calcium and also Diabetic and BP friendly ..........

** When I had prepared Urad + Moong dal + Varai Idly, I had kept aside some batter of the same, the recipe of which I have already posted a few days back. I Just added Nachani / Ragi / Indian barnyard millet powder to the batter and made these awesome panna doddaks. So the next time you prepare those Idly, just keep some batter aside and you can have another healthy and awesome breakfast dish ready in a moment. A great two in one dish I must say. I have given the link to the Idly batter below; please do go through the same for the recipe.

Method of preparing the Doddak batter : I had about 3 cups of the batter of the below mentioned Idly batter, to which I added 1 cup of nachani powder, 1 tablespoon of grated ginger, a little bit of salt and 3-4 finely crushed green chillies mixed well and removed the doddak's by seasoning them with mustard seeds. They really tasted toooooo good.

Here is the method of preparing the doddaks from the batter :
Heat 1 tblsp of oil in a small iron or non stick kadai, when hot add in a tsp of mustard seeds, when they begin to splutter, lower the heat and gently pour in one cup of the prepared batter into the center of the kadai.

Cover with a tight lid and cook on very low heat till the bottom side of the doddak is crispy and done. To test, uncover the lid, just touch the top of the doddak with finger, if the batter is sticky and sticks to the finger, it is not done, if the surface is smooth and non sticky it is done. Now gently flip over, the doddak and cook on the other side also for 3-4 minutes. Remove and serve hot with fresh homemade butter / chutney / sambar. Tastes best with butter.
