Chilled Tomato Juice.


"Chilled Tomato Juice" ... while the debate on whether tomato is a fruit?? or veggie?? continues let go ahead and enjoy them both ways ... its extensively used in preparation of variety of dishes and will continue to be so forever ... relish this simple juice chilled to beat summer heat .... Yummilicious ....

** Tomato is a super-food that is considered both as a fruit and vegetable by nutritionists. There are many benefits of tomatoes. They are used both in salads as well as curries. Had as soup as well as juice. Sauces made from tomatoes are one of the highest consumed product all over the world. It is referred as “functional food” for its immense health benefits. I will not go into the details as being one of the most used item in every kitchen almost everybody is aware of its use and for more it is readily available over net.

** In Indian food, it is mostly used as a base in preparation of curries and salads. Tomatoes consumed in form of juice has immense health benefits for improvement of overall health. Its fits into almost everybody's budget so go ahead and make the best use of this versatile fruit/ veggie and enjoy either as juice, in salad, in sauces, in curries etc. In fact my Amma prepared a simple tasty jam with it when they were in season and we siblings loved it very much. I have shared the recipe in blog, do check it out, its just too good. 

** Here is my simple recipe for "Chilled Tomato Juice" ... My style ...

** It is very simple to prepare this juice, just wash, wipe dry and chop into pieces 5-6 large sized tomatoes. The tomatoes should be bright red in colour and ripe. Put it in the blender with 2 cups of chilled water and grind to a smooth paste.

** Remove and strain through a medium sized sieve. Add more chilled water if necessary only depending upon the consistency you desire to have. Add kala salt (rock salt) to taste, black pepper powder (kali miri) to taste and mix well. 

** "Chilled Tomato Juice" is done and ready to be served. Serve it chilled retaining the consistency desired topped with a dash of black pepper powder and few ice cubes. A healthy juice that you can prepare if you fall short on fruits as tomatoes are always available in the home, they don't cost a bomb, so go ahead and enjoy.
