Avnasa Ambe Sasam / Pineapple Mango Curry.

Avnasa Ambe Sasam / Pineapple Mango Curry.........

This is a sweet curry to which medium spicy coconut gravy is added. This is one more Konkani dish enjoyed by all in our community and is mainly prepared during Mango season. There are many combinations of preparing the same, however the most famous and enjoyed combination is that of Mango (Alphonso or any other) and Pineapple.

Method : Boil or Micro wave 2 cups of pineapple pieces with half a cup of grated jaggery till slightly cooked. They should be firm and not mushy.

Cool and add it with 2 medium sized Mangoes cut into cubes / pieces. Add in about 15 large sized black grapes cut into two (Optional). Mix all the three fruits well with salt to taste.

To be Ground to a paste : Grind ½ cup of fresh grated coconut with 1 green chilly and 2 red chilly to a fine paste. Add the end add ½ tsp of rai (sasam) and grind for a minute of two. Remove and add the masala to the prepared fruit and mix in well. Add water if necessary only. Serve immediately or keep it in the fridge to cool and then serve.

Note: The dish should be kept immediately in the fridge as the masala added to the fruits is not heated which may result in spoiling of the dish.

** Seasoning of the dish is Optional and a matter of choice, I sometimes season it and sometimes I do not, however you can if you wish to as it’s a matter of individual choice. Just heat a tsp of oil in a small kadai and add half a spoon of sasam (rai), when they splutter add in a few curry leaves and pour this over the Pineapple + Mango Sasam.
