Whole Black Chana Salad.


Whole Black Chana - Cucumber - Tomato - Onion - Curd Salad.... Seasoned with crushed spices.

Soak whole black chana overnight…. Next day pressure cook it to 4-5 whistles. Cool & strain the chana well. The chana’s should come out really clean, you can give a rinse if you wish but plz. Do so with boiled & cooled water. Do not throw away the water in which the chana was cooked. You can use it to make chana saar/amti etc. 


 Chop one onion, one cucumber without seeds, 1 tomato without seeds & mix in the cooked chana’s say about one cup. The remaining chana’s can be used to make other preparations ie. What I do. Mix well with 1-2 tblsp of very thick curds & salt to taste.


For Seasoning : Heat 1 tblsp oil in a small kadai add a few pepper corns, 1 tsp jeera, 1 tsp rai (sasam), 1 green chilli chopped fine, 1 red chilli also chopped fine, 1 tsp hing powder & mix well when crackles add 5-6 curry leaves. Remove & let cool a bit. With a small stone or pounder crush the seasoning a bit powderish & then add to the salad, mix well & serve. Tastes great. The crushed/powdered seasoning imparts a good flavour. You can garnish with coriander leaves.
