Ripe Banana (Nendrabale) Fritters.

"Ripe Banana (Nendrabale Kele) Fritters" .... A south Indian delicacy ... Crispy Exterior~ Sweet Soft centered snack that tastes awesome when served with tomato ketchup and coconut chutney .... can be served as a starter or snack at parties / functions ... Tastes awesome ....

**Nendrabale Banana Fritters are prepared out of large sized bananas that are available in plenty in southern parts of India and are usually cooked / steamed for consumption as otherwise they are considered to be difficult in digestion. Curries and other dishes are also prepared by these bananas. But the best out of all is the Halwa, yes Kelo Halvo as called be Konkani Saraswat which rules the list prepared by these dishes. Mangalore being the most famous for these halwas they are a delight to eat rolling in the mouth till done ... I have so many nostalgic memories of Mom preparing them as it is laborious and she used to ask us to join in to stir it for sometime in between. I don't really think she needed any help there, but I guess it was for us to learn the culinary well that she indulged us into such activities. Mom prepared the best Banana fritters and she still does them the best and we children have grown up relishing these almost on monthly basis. Do try this out if you have access to these wonderful bananas and enjoy them with your family and friends. I have enclosed a picture of these bananas so that they are easier for you to identify if you are new to it.

** To Prepare the Fritters : Cut the the banana into three pieces width wise, then cut them again into three pieces lengthwise into two / three pieces depending on the thickness of the bananas. Keep these ready ready aside.

** To Prepare the Batter : Make a thick batter with 1 cup maida, pinch of baking soda, pich of salt, 2-3 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp cardamom powder, 1tblsp cornflour with required amount of water. Keep this for 10-15 minutes.

** To Deep fry the Fritters : Heat plenty of oil in a thick bottomed kadai. When smoking hot, lower the heat to medium and wait for 3-4 minutes. Now dip the bananas slices into the prepared batter and roll them to evenly coat all sides of the banana piece. Leave it gently into the hot oil and let cook for a few minutes, before you flip them over.

** Once the fritters are cooked on one side gently roll them over and deep fry on the other side too. Keep flipping till golden brown in color. Remove the fritter with the help of a slotted spatula and keep it on absorbent paper for extra oil to drain off. Continue with the remaining banana pieces in similar manner till the required number of fritters are done.

** "Nendrabale Banana Fritters" are done and ready to be served. Always serve them hot either with tomato ketchup or chutney or both. Children love them with tomato ketchup and in my home I never make any chutney as we prefer it that way. But my Mom made coconut chutney as Dad loved it that way. You can prepare and serve it in whichever way suitable to you . Enjoy this with your family and friends and do give me a feed back.
